unfortunate? 20%
The same I tip at any restaurant.
10% for awful service
15% for mediocre service
18% for average service
20% for great service
If I only have something really small (inexpensive) like coffee etc. it might jump up to 30-50%.
Im usually only drunk when I venture to that part of the food industry. % 30, and then I regret it the next morning.
3 dollars.
usually about 30%. serving at a busy, cheap restaurant is hard as hell. those people bust their asses for some of the most disrespectful and demanding people. and that's also the kind of place where customers say, "can i get some more syrup?" and the server goes to get it and then they say "Can i get some more mayo?" and the server comes back with it and then they want 8 other things, one at a time.
20% everywhere no matter if service was lame or not because sometimes the tips get split with the back of the house employees as well/working in a restaurant is hard work.

Can you explain this to me? I usually tip well but if my service is awful I tip 0.
15-18 %
if its really crummy service, about half that much, but it has to be really bad
occasionally im in a generous mood and leave over 20%...And i almost always i regret this--they actually probably didnt deserve it, and they're cackling in the backroom about the sucker they just "took" for 30%
20+% Easy to be a big shot when the tab is only about $10-15 for two people.
I don't. I'd rather make and serve my own eggs at my own house with good quality, pure ingredients.
The IHOP by me is insanely busy esp on weekends. Like 30min wait busy. Who in their right mind waits in line to eat IHOP?
I tip 2-3$ probably or 20% w/e if there is a few of us. But I would never wait in line. The food honestly is OK but not really any better than McDonalds breakfast.
If you have a bad day at work, do you receive 0$? Give the server a break. Besides, not tipping is bad karma and just mean. Don't be that guy.

inexpensive places like Waffle House of iHop 20-30% rounded up with a minimum tip of $3
Of it's clear the server is the problem, zero can be appropriate. I won't pay to be abused and neglected. If the food itself is the issue I try not to take it out on the server.
If the situation is bad enough you are contemplating zero tip, complain, the manager will probably comp or discount the meal, then you can still tip if the server is not the problem.
EXCRA MERNASE, PUTS MO ON IT. MO MERNASE. MO MUHFUGGA. TAKE DAT OLIVE OFF, PUT DAT OLIVE ON, NO NOT THAT ONION DAT ONE OVA DER, NO, DAT UDDA ONE, MOE MERNASE!!!!
And then I tip nothing.
If you are considering leaving 0%, speak to the manager first. Getting stiffed is so maddening, esp if you are trying to do a good job.
Tipping reflects the real cost of a restaurant. In general, a server doing his/her job can expect to get 15% of revenue, and probably keeps 10% (after tipping out other service roles).
I don't bother with the math at places like this; I usually leave $3 no matter how much my bill is, which I guess could be as little as 10% and as much as 40%. I never leave $0; if the service is that bad, you need to speak to the manager. Waiting tables is a tough job and those guys deserve a decent wage. Btw, I leave 20% at fine dining establishments.

I guess it depends on how awful. I have worked in the restaurant business and know there are sometimes things that are outside of the servers control that effect service. Also I think that servers pay attention to their tips more than people realize. If you leave nothing they just assume you are cheap, if you calculate out 10% I am hoping they realize I am trying to send a message. I have also heard of people leaving just one penny to send a message. I have stiffed a server or two in my life but for me it has to be monumentally bad & rude service. Just my take on it. I think if you have had really bad service you are more than entitled to leave nothing.
