How are people who live in Pittsburgh PA and Elmira, NY allowed to compete and score in this event???? Everybody who is on a NYC club team should have to reside in the Metropolitan area, I would think.

Anyone who is a NYRR member and who is on a NYRR affiliated club can run in the race. Where someone lives is irrelevant. If you feel so strongly about restricting entrants in the race to some arbitrary circle around Manhattan, then you are more then welcome to start your own series of races with a championship. Good luck in that endeavor!
Fact,
NYAC's team had 5 of their top 7 from further then 2 hours outside of the NY Metro area (I think Whithouse Station is within 2 hours)
Without those guys, they still finish ahead of CPTC and in 4th. MTC would move to 3rd and NYAC would have a very good local team of local guys... something they haven't had in a LONG time.
Instead they have a 3rd place finish with out of area guys. I don't see how they can be proud of that. These guys are all sponsored by NYAC, but to call them a team is ridiculous.
MTC is still the best men's team in the city outside of the African contingent. That much was made clear yesterday. NYAC and CPTC are good alternatives if you don't get along with the MTC crew and are still a decent runner.

You think the Metropolitan area is some arbitrary circle??? north of Poughkeepsie, east of Stratford, south of princeton and west of columbia are outside. All of the island is in. It's not that hard.
Is Ethiopia and Kenya outside the NY C area?
High Falls, NY (pop.627)inside or outside the Metropolitan circle?
Fact: You also omitted NYAC's #4 (who finished ahead of all MTC) also lives and trains with #8,9,10,11,12,15,16,17,18 in Central Park
Fact: NYAC has two other local NYC runners who were not able to run Club Champs, both who have previously finished ahead of their #9 this year. Add these guys in, and NYAC would have been ahead of MTC at Club Champs.
Fact: Therefore, MTC is not the best men's team in the city outside of the African contigent.
Fact: STUPID thread because we're talking about mediocre, sub-pro level running in NYC.

Fact: Dusen doesn't live in Manhattan anymore so does that negate your myopic definition of "team" and how it applies to MTC? Neither does the Bill guy who lives in Boston but who put down NY on his race application.
It is true that Karl just moved out of NYC a few weeks ago. I don't think he's going to be on the team much longer, as he'll be joining a local team wherever he's at.
I'm pretty sure I am the 'Bill guy' mentioned here. I live in the Upper East Side. Moreover, I have never been to Boston.
Furthermore, there is a difference between paid recruitment of athletes and someone coming back to the place they lived for around a decade a few weeks after they move.
I can't resist:
Fact: Your post makes you sound like a douche.
BTW I wanted to add that NYAC had a really impressive showing. With just their local guys, I think they still beat MTC, so my hat is off to them for putting together a solid team.
what is "paid recruitment"? Please clarify.
This argument is so tiring. Every athlete that runs for the NYAC has some sort of tie to the team, whether they were college teammates, have a common coach, ran at Columbia or live on the perimeter of the park. We accept this as our definition of "team." It's fine if you do not agree with us, but we are satisfied with how we have chosen to support the sport of running. If a Columbia grad, who lived in the city for a solid block of years, who we have chosen to support in his aspirations to qualify for the Olympic Trials wants to drive for 2 hours to support the team in NYC, then I think we have formed an ideal partnership.
If anyone doubts our men's training group in the city, just visit the MTC message board, they vouch our presence on there.
How about showing some love for the dominating NYAC women? They were missing a lot of their top runners and still would have come in an easy 10th in the men's race with their top 10.

what WSX does.

But so very true.
The good news is that Westchester TC which comprises of guys actually _living_ in NYC spanked NYACs ass handily. Unfortunately WTC does not all races to put NYAC where they belong even with their non-NYers in the race: second best. They could recruit US-Olympians and wouldn't beat WTC.
So, again: why pay people from outside NY to do a local race that doesn't even have prize money?
I heard that Mary Wittenberg propses rule changes for next year. Good on her!
Your tripe is difficult to decipher but I believe that you are claiming that most of WTC's guys live in NYC. Here are their top finishers:

Apparently you are geographically challenged, so I'll let you in on a little secret: 19 of their first 21 DON'T live in NYC (and who know where the 17 who list High Falls, NY as their residence really reside).
I remember the good old days when Warren Street, whose leader directed the Metropolitan Athletics Congress, would sign up Kenyans on the day of the race to run for the club. Must have made them proud.

You are right, it isn't clear from the sign-up. No need to belittle me though NYAC guy, because "Sleepy Hollow" is simply where their coach lives.
AFAIK almost all of them actually live in the Bronx/NYC. I'm sure they would welcome you to train with them in VCP. HTFU before you do though.

Did you see my previous post??? Both out. The Ulster county High Falls is just north of Poughkeepsie, Greene County is obviously way out. Have you been to Greene County???? I don't think you can really put Greene County and the word metropolitan together.
high falls ny, pop. 641.
wtc makes up a pretty good portion of the town there, eh?
Do you really think that people outside of NY shouldn't be able to race on a team? Many of us commute to the city every day and enjoy being part of a competitive team in NYC. The NYRR races are great and we enjoy them. Do you really want this race to be less competitive? Don't like being the small fish? Sounds like you need a new perspective. Work hard and rise to your competition instead of trying to water it down. wahwawhawwah
