That's fast.
Margin of victory almost Johnson-esque. Only 0.32 sec to go. . .
just watched the meet there.amazing run by Wariner.5th fastest time ever.2.07 in womens high jump=joint 2nd highest ever outdoors.
sub 8m in wens steeple.sanya richards pipped in the 400m but earlier ran pr in the womens 100m coming 2nd.sweden had 3 hometown winners.
Am I missing something? I thought the WR record was 43.85, but wariner just ran 43.5 and he's only 5th fastest?

Yes, you're missing a fair amount it seems. Johnson set the current record August 26, 1999 at 43.18.
Wariner will be the first person ever to run under 43 seconds in a 400!
Very impressive! When I first saw the headline, I thought that it had to be Skuj trolling once again.
Not to be overlooked
Williamson Darold 44.90
Starting to get back to his 2004 form after some recent 46's
well, looks like I was wrong about modest times this summer for Wariner. Unless, of course, this ends up being his best for the season. My prediction was that he would run no faster than 43.50 (I know, I know....43.50 is not really a "modest" time, but it is a few tenths off the WR), and then run under that next year. Given that he has really only run 1 or 2 400s early in the season, I'm guessing this 43.50 is only a teaser.
Lashawn Merritt will break 44 at worlds as well but Wariner will beat him.

And the record never was 43.85... it was 43.86 ( Lee Evans 1968 )until Reynolds ran his 43.29 20 long years later in 1988. Then 11 more years to MJ's 43.18 in 1999.

None of the swedish winners are from Stockholm.
Talk about quality and consistency- MJ is all over the all-time list.

Wow, Harry Reynolds' 43.29 was really ahead of its time.
And his second best time isn't even in the top 20.
Beamon-esque.
I wonder if 3 men will go under 44s in Osaka later this month. Merritt and Taylor are right there, but Wariner has got to be the odds on favorite. I guess all those 200's this season are starting to pay dividends.
How could wariner not be the favorite for Osaka. Isn't he unbeaten over the past several years at 400m. If i'm wrong he only could have lost once or twice, he's the best in the world by far right now and has been for years.
The Ohio State lad went by the moniker "Butch".
he has never lost a race he has finished. So to me he is unbeaten. he never even got out of the blocks a week ago, and last year at the world cup he pulled up and dnf'd
To me I consider that a unbeaten record. Injuries do happe, you can't help that. but as long as you dont pull up at like 200 or further he is fine by me.
