This is an iconic photo, Lasse Viren's desperate look at the 1980 Moscow Olympics when he realizes that a neo-luddite old guard like him using only the teachings of Lydiard can't keep up with the pace of blood dopers:

Definitely a top candidate for most iconic collegiate xc photo.

Not too excited about a picture from Coe winning a boycotted Olympics. Hollow victory.
That Ryun shot is amazing. Bannister image is legendary.
Don't be silly. They were by far and away the best in the world and they had to contend with the East Europeans on home turf with full licence to full throttle. (yes I l know you or some other krank will say Coe and Ovett doped, on no evidence whatsoever).
I believe both Coe and Ovett were undefeated over the 1500 and mile between 77 and 81, save obviously for Moscow in the case of Ovett.

If you don't think Virén was using blood doping (aka blood packing)...I don't know how to help you.

I would not say that it is the most iconic, but one of them for sure. There are many really iconic running photos, actually, and we have to admit that they are all different but still have the same kind of magic! I actually have a lot of the photos posted by you guys on the walls of my workshop. They inspire me, and they just make up a pleasant atmosphere. Besides those running photos, I have some unique nature and panoramic landscape images made by Peter Lik. His pictures are insanely good! I think there is no other photographer as talented as he is. If you would like to get some photos made by him, you can find them here.
