When I saw the title I thought the issue was should all these HS kids be doing their long run at the same pace and there must be 14 pages of a highly detailed opinions on the subject. That was not the case.
COVID times seem so bizarre even though it wasn't that long ago.
i went hiking in the back country of the San Juan’s near telluride Colorado in summer of 2020 and got yelled at to put a mask on. What happened during Covid was pure insanity. Basically two years of normal life taken away for largely no reason from the lockdowns.
Social life has completely changed as a result of the pandemic too. It’s noticeable how different people act at bars, outside, or anywhere. Makes me really sad
eh, any time is a good time to point out that we shouldn't do things guaranteed to harm people. the harms caused by the lockdowns were guaranteed. the supposed threats by the virus from opening your business, being outside, not wearing a mask, etc., were just theory, and bad theory, as it turned out. served a lot of people's political and moral agendas, though.
Just wait, next time the US Govt wants to work with China (like they did in 2020) to uproot society to do something massive (end the Hong Kong protests and force Orange Man out of office), a huge portion of our population will prove to be sheep yet again and go right along with it. Humans by nature want to be sheep, especially the women. It's a miracle that America has held together as long as it has because freedom of the population at large has only been achieved in this past 250 year era. We showed in 2020 and to this day that we are ripe to lose this freedom and fall back into the normal human existence that everyone prior to the late 18th century has experienced in this world.
These threads remind me of my grandpa's comment at the VFW, "Every single one of those guys in there survived the Korean war. 100% of them. That sort of adds up to a certain kind of bias, don't you think?"
Everyone on this thread is fine and none of us died. It sort of effects the conversation...
p.s. I am the opposite of a "Covid fear monger" and was "over it" quite soon (based on the evidence that quickly piled up that our restrictions didn't really seem to matter much, so this is coming from a person who was never "freaking out" or trying to shut down the nation.
I went hiking in the early summer of 2021 after the vaccine was fully administered in the seattle area. did not wear a mask. only person on the busy trail without a mask, and had several people make comments to me about how selfish i was. keep in mind vaccine was out at this time...
this was like thousands of feet up in the beautiful fresh air of the cascades.
I grew up in the pacific northwest. I love the region and beauty of it. I cannot deal with the people there anymore.
My sister lived in the highly rated and desirable lake washington school district in seattle area. extremely wealthy low crime area. they REFUSED to do in person school all through 2020 and 2021 (while most of the country was in person). they had the resouces to make it work but the people in seattle metro area are just too beta and liberal.
Even now my parents (very liberal) brag that they are the only two people at church who wear masks and every time I talk to them they complain about living in FL among the evil Republicans :/
For months they didn't even go to church; they just did TV mass. Even when things were improving and mask mandates were lifted...
I think the COVID situation turned friends and family against each other and ruined relationships. A lot of people made their political affiliation their actual identity, not just one part of their identity.
Even the local major shoe/running club franchise is TOO LIBERAL (and expensive, to boot). They politicize everything...I can handle being liberal in some instances (LGBTQ tolerance is vital to me but I'm low-key about it) but the city of Cbus and some in the running community project tons of beta energy as a result of the political climate.
The one thing the liberals have going for them--for the most part--is that they do support our efforts in Ukraine and I am down with that.

Your parents might go to church as a social club but they worship something far different than God. Chances are by your response though, you already are well aware of that.
I didn’t realize what this thread was about either. I can’t really believe my HS age son was forced to run all his practices in a mask for 1-2 years. I ran with a mask pulled down and pulled up only if people neared. How damn stupid that all was…said as left side person if that matters.
It's stupid. These are things that are happening everywhere I think, but it's still stupid. If there was a coach directing them gather and run together, whether the coach was present or not, then that is unacceptable.
You people are f#cking insane.
I was a medical resident at the height of COVID, and it truly horrific. I'm about the furthest thing from an anti-masker or anti-vaxxer. I've had COVID. I've probably watched more people die from COVID than all the non healthcare people on this thread combined. I've worked on a MICU team that had to run like mad around the hospital intubating patients because the hospital was packed with so many COVID patients going into respiratory failure that we could barely keep up and get everyone who needed a ventilator onto one.
I believe in COVID. I care about COVID. But what we're talking about on this thread - kids getting together in small groups to go for runs outside - WAS NEVER PART OF THE PROBLEM. It wasn't when this thread was created or at any other time during the pandemic.
