agree - that was their chance to score back to back and they went too conservative which is a death nail against KC.

Forty-Whiners haha
Yes, South Africa had more possession and line breaks , yet Fiji still beat them 12-10 last night in the Sydney Rugby 7's
Letting the clock run down just before half time and losing a scoring opportunity was the death nail. It made no sense and in the Super Bowl you just can’t piss away opportunity like that - saving the time outs for what? It was nonsensical. I’m ok with people putting that loss squarely on the shoulders of Shanahan.
This is the key.. There were two times when Shanahan got too conservative, a point I saw made by other commentators in the news today. He did not take the kinds of chances Andy Reid did, and that made the game.
How in the world is this possible?
Easy.
The Chiefs scored more points than they did.

No. Not too conservative. Not conservative enough. 49ers had the lead with 7 1/2 minutes ago and 49ers threw the ball on 2 and 5 and 3 and 5. 49ers should have been running time off the clock with their running game. There is a reason why 49ers only threw the ball 19 times versus Vikings and only 8 times versus Packers. Jimmy G is only so good.

Death knell.
Thank you.
Andy Reid don't care about giving up rushing yards between the 20's. His teams defenses traditionally tighten up in the Red Zone.
I remember back in 2003, the Eagles played the Packers twice, once in the regular season and once in the playoffs. Ahman Green had over 400 rushing yards total in the two games. The Eagles won them both.
the NFL wanted a chiefs victory. They are still po-ed at the 49ers for Capernick .
The officiating was disgustingly one-sided and actually had an influence on the outcome of the game. Sad.

I think the questioning of playcalling is being made out to be a bigger deal than it was. But the clock mismanagement at the end of the half was inexcusable. That wasn't the proverbial death nail but it was a game-changer. If the Niners get pts there they very likely would have won. But to not call timeout before the punt and then do two runs with no TO's was unbelievable.
Because the only stat that matters is the point total.

Chiefs can jump offsides all they want. 49ers got called for it when they didn't.
Chiefs can facemask and hold all they want. 49ers get called for it when they don't.
That's what I saw.
LRC note: Everyone talking about the Chiefs being offsides, please watch this video. You will clearly the 49ers guard move first.

Correct. If SF runs on 2nd and 5 with 5:26 left to go in the game, SF wins the game.
Inability to create big plays and other teams strength is big plays.
Being able to go 50+ yards in one play gives a team the ability to score 21 points in a quarter when down by 10. That’s exactly what the Chiefs did.
If they only rushed it 22 times, that's pretty bad.
Their main back only had 12 carries.
The Chiefs ran it 29 times and their main back had 17 carries.
The Chiefs also had more pass attempts and time of possession.
Yards per carry is a pretty meaningless stat when you don't have many carries.

Yes. I blame my phone and too many beers. Although this was even more inexcusable as I'd recently been in conversation with friends about "common errors that irritate us" and we specifically talked about death knell. Ah well. Mine was how people say "chomping at the bit" instead of "champing at the bit". On that note, one friend insisted that you can now correctly say chomping as it's been so widely misused that it's become ok. Tender hooks vs. tenterhooks was also a big one, tender hooks doesn't even make sense. Anyway.

Agreed. Not to be that guy but death knell (ringing of a bell) is the correct phrase but maybe you meant final nail in the coffin.
