Any "football experts" on here? I must admit I missed a decent amount of the game taking care of a toddler.
But when I was watching early I thought, "Man the 49ers defense is fast." At the end of the half, I thought, "The chiefs can't stop the 49ers offense, particularly their run."
Now the game is over and I'm kind of stunned. I just looked at the stats. THe 49ers average 6.4 yards per carry. 22 rushes 141 yards. Yes, I know that's an average and some of those were long runs. But going into the game I thought to myself, "Shanahan is virtually the only NFL coach who if the running game is working, he'll do it every time. Every other coach gets cute."
Clearly he didn't do that tonight. I saw a lot of play action for big gains on 2nd down.
But the question I have is, "What if he just ran on every single play? Would the Chiefs have been able to stop it? Or is the running only successful because they passed on more than half the plays?" Has anyonene on here played at a high level? Can you tell me about that?
Second key thing I'm wondering about since I misseed much of the game. Were their any possessions where he ran on both first and 2nd down and found himself in third and long?
I guess someone defending the passing could say they picked up 219 yards on 31 passes so that's even more than 6 yards per play. That's nearly 7.
But they had this one all but in the bag.
