Breakup the long run into segments? 2 mile warmup , 6 mile progression (run faster every mile ) , then 2 mile cool down. If you feel good then extend the progression and cut the cool down.

It's still not a long run. Sorry. A long run has specific benefits that you're not gonna get from a 7 miler.
Long easy runs are a waste of time - if you don't include other types of workouts, e.g., tempo, intervals, and you wish to compete. Otherwise, long, easy runs can be beneficial.
Long runs are fine if you are doing long races. Here's the rub, you gotta throw it down at some point in those long runs to get your moneys worth.
I ran 16.5 yesterday. I picked up the pace at 9 miles, then really threw it down over the last two. Bust a move. If your legs are sore the next morning you got it right.
