He also knew that she wouldn't run away at that point.
I'm not a woman, but at the biggest romantic moment of my life, I would NOT want to be sweaty, hair matted to head, no makeup, legs cramping, overwhelmed the emotion of finishing a marathon, and having to go to the bathroom for the last four miles.
Are you dumb because the proposal is also an accomplishment for the girl too he wasn't trying to take away her accomplishment
The public proposal is so old and overdone.

I partially agree. Let her celebrate and come up with another way to do this. It’s a dick move to propose like this tbh.
Oh lord... you guys are speculating on two lives that you know nothing about.
I've dated multiple girls seriously. I had one tell me that she only wants a proposal if it's in front of thousands of people (sporting event, concert, etc.). Meanwhile, my current girl friend said she'd kill me if it wasn't in private.
You have no idea if she mentioned how cute this would be...
Don't take something positive and make it negative for no reason!

Exactly!
Married, stay at home dad for 20 years. Raised 3 children. She was an international business executive and raging alcoholic. Filed after she had lost yet another job, escorted from the workplace by the police. She swore the attorneys would get every penny before I got a dime. After three years in the courts I ended up settling for a pittance to rid myself of any further losses. She now pampers my kids with everything they could want and they have nothing to do with me. Life isn't always fair and it is just as painful for men as it is for women there backdoor betty. Just saying....

Well done - I see you’re just trying to be a bit ch, and doing so in a way to illustrate exactly what is most evil about women. Because, in what world is an engagement or wedding about the guy? Does a guy get a diamond ring? An engagement is 100% about her and all he did was make a day that was already all about her even more all about her. He doubled up on the “all about her day”.
Now if she crossed the line and then had to drop $20k on a gift for him which lead to an institution that would potentially financially cripple her if she ever decided to leave him after he gained 200 pounds, maybe it would be about him. But it really really wasn’t.

HAHA my thought exactly - probably would have broke 4 in vapors!
As for the proposal, probably depends on the girl for public vs private. If running is really important to her, then it would likely be appropriate. I would prefer if the guy also ran - hopefully he was so fast that he ate breakfast, had a mimosa (for courage to propose of course) and showered to make it back for her 4 hour finish.

I wonder if this was staged? What you see isn't always true.
