So, to be completely candid, I am of the firm belief that both Fauble and Ward do not have the capability to run 2:07 on a *certified* course. Ward is a great championship racer, and excels when the pace is not out of his wheelhouse. I honestly believe that Fauble and Ward's ceiling on a certified course is likely between 2:08:15-2:08:45. We may never see them run that time.
I would bet against us seeing that time come through, BUT I would love to see it happen. With that being said, I am blown away by Korir's less than ideal build up, and less than ideal pacing strategy leading to such a strong debut of 2:07 high.
I am of the belief we have 1 lock now, but it's Korir, not Rupp. Now, I feel like Rupp could be a second lock, but we have no idea which Rupp is going to show up.
One thing I feel confident about is that Rupp is likely having training discussions with Salazar over family dinners every night, and I imagine they will conceive a way to have him back at 95% fitness by the trials. If he's at 95%, that's good enough to be ahead of the others.
So the question is, is it Rupp and Korir, then a battle between Fauble and Ward? Then a massive group of the 2:10-2:12 crew we now have praying for a blow up ahead of them?
