I agree. You can see a car driving on the road. You can't see a car pulling out of an alley or around a corner. So yeah I'll keep using the bike lanes when it's not safe to be on the sidewalk.
Truth Bomber is correct, as far as runners are concerned, you have to lookout for your own safety and the best way to do that is running against traffic.
Runners are not moving fast enought to not be able to react to oncoming traffic (Contrary to bikers)
And yes, that means adjusting your speed when approaching blind alleys or corners. The whole point in running against traffic is to see potential dangers early enough so that YOU the runner, can move out of the way or stop if need be.
