The Earth has gone through cooling and heating periods for millions of years. The cooling periods (glaciation) tend to last around 100,000 years and the heating periods tend to last 20,000 years. We entered a warming period about 15,000 years ago and the sea level rose 400 ft. Now the Greenland ice sheet can only contribute another 20 ft to sea rise. The Earth and adaptive animals survived very well during this period.
15,000 years ago, the Sahara desert was lush grasslands with the largest freshwater lake on Earth. Now it is a wasteland, but animals around the world survived. If you have a home in Miami, the Outer Banks, New Jersey shore you are in big trouble for some years to come. But this has nothing to do with survival of the Earth
15,000 years ago you could walk on dry land for 100 miles west from the current Florida gulf coast. Native Americans must have been pissed when they had to move their sites 10 yards inland every ten years or so.
