Even smart people do stupid stuff.

I wonder if they do it for the benefit provided by the strip, or for promotional purposes. If for promo purposes, I wonder why the manufacturer doesn’t make them in vivid colors, rather than flesh colored, in order to draw attention to the product. Rowbury coulda had a lot of fun with that.

If they work, shouldn't we do minor surgery to increase the size of the nostrils?
Well, I had not been able to breath via my right nostril until the age of 48 when I had septoplasty done. My sleep is way better and I can actually walk and breathe just using nostrils which had not been possible before. However, I still breathe via my mouth while running and the surgery did not seem to improve my condition during heavy exercise. Some cross cointry skiers had a similar surgery. I suspect the surgery does not make you better during exercise but makes it less likely to get your nose stuffed and to get a cold.
Anyone reading this thread needs to read “Build your Running Body” and you will know why there is no need to wear them.

Lewandowski has improved by several seconds since he started wearing them. Obviously they are miraculous. Arguably they should be banned.
as long as I'm wearing my hologram energy balance bracelet I have no use for this snake oil.
They aren't the big deal they were 25 years ago, but you still see them now and then. If it makes you feel like you're breathing better, why not? Doesn't seem like it'd make much difference when you've got your mouth open sucking air, but if it make you feel better, what's the harm?
(never tried it myself)
Switched to Vaporflies. Works better...
My sinuses are always blocked in the morning. So if I race afternoon or evening I feel fine, but for morning races they let me take in more oxygen.
The nose strips were always inferior to the Turbine, which you have to actually insert into your nose. It's still used by some pro cyclists.
Kate Grace and Brenda Martinez wear them.
Maria Sharapova wore a clear one in the US Open Monday night. I almost didn't notice it. So, she isn't doing it for promotional reasons. That doesn't mean they work but for some reason she must feel it does something positive for her.

Isn't that what Rowbury used?
If you can race faster while using them, it's not ridiculous and why wouldn't you?

When you run hard, you breathe through your mouth. It's probably largely a placebo effect for you. But I don't see how it can help.
Actually, you breathe through your mouth AND nose. If you have a blockage in your sinus or your nasal cavity shape sucks, the strips help increase airflow, which increases the amount of oxygen you intake. It's not a placebo. But it won't increase your airflow if you don't have existing issues.

Yes, we often do. Septoplasty, septorhinoplasty, internal and external valve repair, to name a few common surgeries. And, yes, breath rite strips when worn correctly can significantly improve some people’s nasal airway.
