The baseball union has a deal where the players are going to be tested for steroids this year, and if more than 5%, or 61 players, test positive, THEN they will implement random testing in the sport.
From the NY Times:
"Each team will receive an unannounced, anonymous testing this season, meaning that 1,200 players (on the 40-man rosters of the 30 major league teams) will be tested. If more than 5 percent ? 61 players or more ? test positive, then program testing will begin next season. That procedure would identify players who use steroids and subject them to discipline if they tested positive in additional tests."
So SIXTY PLAYERS could be caught doping this season, and since they STILL "wouldn't have a problem in the sport", and thus no further testing.
Imagine USATF going to the WDA/IAAF and saying "We only had 50-60 athletes test positive, so we don't really have a problem, so please don't test our people anymore (not that the USATF wouldn't do this if they could).
This crap makes me want to puke.
