Rachel McArthur vs Cooper Teare: Paris 2024

Obviously the answer is Teare, as Rachel would be lucky to make it past the semis at USAs. Even still, it’s great to see her make great improvements after numerous years of injury/plateau. 4:07/4:08 and taking down Anna Camp Bennett is a major improvement from the 4:13+ level she was at in the past. Rooting for her but to get to the 4:02 OLY standard and 4:00 or better level to make the team is unlikely.

I'd give Teare something more like 30%. Maybe I'm sleeping on him because he did win a USA title not too long ago and was 4th at the last trials. But in the 1500, after Hocker and Nuguse, I'm not sure I'd put money on Teare vs. the field. Anything can happen in rounds and there are so many good kickers. I'd feel more confident in him in a fully honest race, but can he outkick even someone like Sahlman or Waskom in a 3:36 race? In the 5k I'd argue he has less of a shot. Not enough fitness to hang with Fisher, Kincaid, Young, Nur, etc. in any race in my opinion.

Yea, I was trying to throw him a bone purely based off his recent 1500 and bc of his almost constant bridesmaid status (finishing right outside the top 3) in a few races (i.e. indoor USAs)

Rachel could become a RL sportswear model in Paris. The 2024 adobe Photoshop can lift those tattoos easily.

75% is high. He’s almost certainly the 4th best 1500 runner, after Nuguse, Hocker, and Kessler. He hasn’t run the standard in the 5000. He’ll be in the mix, but I’d put the odds at closer to 40%. But yes, way higher than Rachel’s odds.

I think you all may be overestimating his odds. Depends on what people run but there is a clear top 3 and lots of contenders in the 1500 and depending who runs the 5000 there are plenty I would favor if they are in shape (Fisher, Kincaid, Young, maybe Klecker) and others about on par like nur & mcgorty.
