"Completely let the track go"? I've never heard that one before. Shorter let the track go about a week before his Olympic win and Lopes about 6 weeks before his 84 win.

You had the best post I’ve seen in a long time and then you blew it in the last line when you said that Desi was going to be competing for the third spot. Come on.
Even Desi knows that is ridiculous. She is not even planning to show up. Already signed a deal for Boston 2020. Just ask Josh.
Yes. Fat Joshy got a little loose lipped after drinking a few and many of us heard it.
It doesn’t matter anyway as she can’t beat Hasay, or Sisson or Cragg.
Also lost to Huddle by a couple minutes at NY.
Don’t be surprised with a Shalane post surgery come back. The pressure is off.
Also up and comer Emma Bates buried Des at NYC Half after Des made a point of saying that she was racing and not running it at marathon pace.
Alphine is now learning the event and may be a factor.
Point is that Des will run Boston.

Only his admission.
I would prefer if more athletes focused on the 10K/Half/XC so I consider all this marathoning for Ritz/Molly to be kind of silly. Basically because there is more money at the marathon people are forced to move up EVEN WHEN IT'S NOT THEIR RIGHT DISTANCE. Ritz has been banging his head against the wall running marathons for past 10 years. If he ran XC and Halfs instead a) we would get to see him race a lot more often and b) he would be much more successful.
Look, I love the marathon as much as the next guy. But Ritz and Molly are 2 of my favorite athletes and I never get to see them run at their optimal distances any more.

This feels like an overreaction. Huddle took one crack at a fast marathon at London & ran 2:26. It's too bad the US majors aren't Berlin & London. Huddle put in solid placed efforts in NYC & ran Boston in a garbage year. She'll put a good marathon together. This was her 4th? And she has gotten a touch faster taking out Boston.
It may be true that her sweet spot is 10k-half marathon but I think she's definitely a threat to make the marathon team and can definitely run low-2:20s when all is said & done. Be cool to see her take another crack at lowering the AR in the half.
Love Molly but this is just an excuse. Several women ahead of her have run faster times than the American record even.
She has come nowhere near it.
She’s phenomenal but I agree, think her best days are on the track. She may be too speedy/short distance for the marathon.
She's run multiple American records and just barely blew a bronze when she let up and Infeld went through. Ritz ran 8:11/12:56 AR/27:22 (6th at World's)/60:00 (World Half Bronze)/2:07:47, with multiple national championships and bronze at World Junior XC (I have no idea why he doesn't run Senior World XC). Neither has a kick. Huddle's remained healthy most of the time, while Ritz has not. Neither seems well-suited for the marathon. Ritz had one good one, though he still didn't come close to his potential in the event, while Huddle hasn't run one commensurate yet.
I've always seen Molly Huddle as a slightly better version of Kara Goucher. The marathon isn't her event. She may eventually run 2:24, but that's it. Better at 10K and the half. I predict that she'll make the Oly team at 10,000 and not the marathon. She didn't sound very confident before London, nor did she really like being seen as a role model for Emily Sisson IMO.
Yes, to be in the elite for the marathon, you have to commit 100% to it. No going back. I think Molly needs to decide if she wants to compete at the marathon or shorter distances.

+1
But there is a 90% chance of a heavy rain storm for the 2020 Olympic Trials.
Correct!
This thread is about Molly and Ritz. Let’s not muddy it up with talk about Dirty Des.
You guys are underestimating Molly. This women has yet to dedicate herself to the marathon,
And she came in 3rd in her first marathon, and nearly ran down shalane for the third spot again in New York.
She can run fast if/when she decides to dedicate herself to the marathon, which will happen but later. She has to put in the miles, and I don't think she has done that yet.
All I know is that within 5 miles to go, If Molly is still there, then my money is going on her because of her speed.
However, if she does not dedicate herself, then she is probably 2:24 at best. But has the potential to run as fast as 2:19/2;10
Damn. Aliphane Tulimak is now a marathoner totally forgot about her. She ran 2;26 in her debut. S h I T.
that trials are going to be insane.....good lord.
