I'm not sure why pretend rich people think anyone is impressed by their brand new Mercedes or BMW.

+1. No creativity.
Are you supposed to have to have creativity to post on a message board? If so, most of us shouldn’t be here.
it’s a message board wrote:

I agree, you shouldn't be posting here. Even with the very low standards on this board, you still don't make the grade.
"Why do poor posters keep coming on this board posting the same old tired trope"
I think the problem here is your paint brush is too broad. It's not a poor person problem. People waste money on cars to impress people at every income and wealth level.
Another problem is that you're projecting your perception on their motivations with no knowledge of the person. I know two people at work really well. One guy buys cars in order to impress people. The other guy likes to take his car to the track on the weekends and just genuinely loves cars. The latter guy works on his car as his hobby and has a lot of aftermarket stuff on it that isn't visible from the curb. The previous guy can't change his own oil.
People are a lot more complicated than the labels you put on them. And until you really get to know them, you're just seeing what you want to see, and not what really is.
What gives you the impression I was in my 30s? I left the Army, bought the Beemer then went to college. Dad helped me buy the car when I graduated college and was heading off to grad school in Utah. But, then again, I guess you missed the point entirely.
I was perfectly self sufficient, yet my Dad chose to help me out with a car as my college graduation present. The POINT is that people that are poor don't have parents who are in a position to do that. Unlike many of the others on this board, and in society writ large, I don't pretend that nobody helped me along the way.
OP isn’t very rich. Rich people don’t go around wondering why poor people do what they do. Rich people are thinking about ways to make more money.
Old luxury cars are cheaper to own than old regular cars because they're not deliberately built to break down a lot and be too expensive to repair.
You didn't know that, and you got OWNED, and it cost me nothing.

Who the fukk would turn down an SL, CL or S class Mercedes for $5-10k when it is 5% of it's original cost. Even if there were major problems with it you could still live inside it(if you had a 17 year old S600 Mercedes this would be an amazing car to sleep in if you were homeless) and you would be living in luxury, and it looks epic. It would have been $200k new. Now it is a bargain. It is like staying in Geb's hotel for free.
I have two ~20 year old German luxury cars sitting around kept in good condition. Both happen to be hand me downs from my parents sold to me for $1 so I could register them here in my state of residence. They still run well, one's a convertible and the other 4wd for snow, are fun to drive (stick shift), and relatively easy to get fixed if something pops up. In response to the thought that anyone who drives a beater is poor, I'll just say I happen to know my net worth is a very high percentile for a millennial. I drive these old cars around instead of buying newer cars because German cars are very solid quality (compared to American sh*tboxes) and I happen to think the shape of the cars is pretty cool. It's also not a problem for my budget if an unexpected repair comes up to just pay the cash and get it fixed. And for an asset (car) that does not appreciate over time and only depreciates it's nice to just have something simple that gets me from Point A to Point B, is decent style, & without breaking the bank.
why do boring people keep trying the same old schtick troll posts time after time after time?
what kinda sicko gets joy out of that?

Because people keep posting pages of responses to these boring threads.
I have some assets and am doing ok, but I drive a beater '07 Corolla. Car thieves aren't gonna like a car with 282k unless they know 9th gens are reliable and solid, and very few car thieves are probably car geeks as well.
I live in Columbus and in a decent area, but drive through the ghetto to avoid traffic on 71 and 670. It's nice going through areas fast and not attracting attention. The Corolla is a tiny, invisible car.
