12 x 800 at 2:40 with 1 minute recovery is way too hard for an 18 minute 5k runner. WAY too hard. You would need to be in mid-16s shape to complete it, and even then, it would be pretty hard.
Seriously, where did you get the idea that you should be able to complete this workout?
