Impossible, they broke the mold

WRs are trolled here, but even Gehrig was booed out of baseball before revealing an illness that was named after him.
I'm curious why some humans have a tendency to do this. To me, it is one thing to say "I don't think he's as good as he used to be, and he's lost his power, speed, etc." It's another to yell "You suck, Lou!" as he walks by and you're relatively anonymous in a crowd. In some way, I suppose that's part of the fame bargain. But I don't understand the desire to behave like this.
Sage is amazing.
I don’t think many people could maintain this level of transparency with their training and racing and still perform at such a high level.
The mental toll of dealing with the constant criticism and comparisons would overwhelm just about anyone. That he manages to maintain such a cheerful demeanour is a testament to his incredible mental toughness and big heart.
It is a privilege to be able to follow his career so closely.

That's normal when the mold is faulty.
He reminds me of my runners in Trans Australia, who appeared on milk cartons at the finish in Canberra. “We’re not lost,” they said.
Sage isn’t, either.
Or moldy! Dude, I was setting you up!

This thread is a train wreck..
I am a fan of Sage, I really believe he brings a lot to the sport of running. I don't agree with every thing he stands by, but that's part of being a human, right?
I do believe he opens himself up unintentionally to a lot of this with his public stances on everything from PEDs, Vegan, Anton's training history, he's very transparent. Maybe his biggest gift and curse at times.
I hate that a platform like this can be spoiled with so much negativity though. For a community that's apparently supportive from all walks of life, sharing a common bond like running, there's a lot of tools overwhelming what could be a decent conversation like, "how does an ultra runner transition to road speed turnover for a race or increased efficiency?" A viable conversation with a lot of athletes crossing over and dabbling, instead it takes on this insanely rude twist that's just unfortunate.
An ultra runner can’t transition to greater efficiency, humans are already the best at ultra distances. The old saying is that a sprinter can run long, but a distance runner can’t sprint.
FWIW it's a damn hilly course.

Or, you're too dumb to know better;) Stupid old man, listen more and keep the trapper shut.

Which means you're insecure and need to post that to feel better.
Did it help?
The truth hurts, doesn’t it?
Hard to be secure when you’ve just outed Russians on the trump thread.
My original point was when you can’t beat a 39 year old triathlete who I highly doubt runs 100 plus miles per week it’s time to examine your training. This is not an attack on him as a person but rather on his training and results.
Personally I think he needs a coach. The self coaching or coach Sandi doesn’t seem to be cutting it.

Valid Point. Been a rough go since UTMB, something isn't clicking on all cylinders for him.
Sage, even though you're a pretty positive guy, I can imagine it's got to get somewhat tiring dealing with all the chirping from people who have nothing better to do than to try to pull you down all the time. Just know that there are plenty of other people who like what you do and admire your efforts and the transparency that you show along the way.
Personally, I don't care about your times (although I do wish you the best in hitting all of your goals no matter what they may be) but I do care and appreciate what you do for the sport. Running needs more people like you and I hope you continue to work, train and inspire for years to come. Best of luck and keep living the dream, man!
His main two problems is lack of quality protein and fat, and he is not hitting the fast twitch muscle fibers. I have Meb for Mortals book in my lap. Here is his week leading up to his half marathon PB:
His chapter on nutrition puts emphasis on animal protein. Here is what his book says on vegetarian diets.
Than the chapter on nutrition goes on to say:
Sage:
1) before you ran this race, you had a workout named "run form experiment"... More details? Why would you do this before a race?
2) what are your thoughts on the new USATF OTQ ruling? Was that a demotivating factor?
