There will be some epic blow-ups for sure but some will produce career bests as almost everyone will go with the lead group. What do you think?

Bringing all the action as it unfolds throughout the morning will be British running legend Paula Radcliffe,
I was feeling quite happy reading your post and looking forward to the coverage until I came across that last bit.
How many times do you reckon she'll mention our favorite push up knight?
We've merged the 3 Dubai threads into 1.
12 hours till the gun. Weather still looks decent at the start - 63 degrees, relatively low humidity & no wind. Same temp forecast for 2 hours later but the sun will be up by then and feel warmer. For the back of the pack folks they've got the temp at 80 degrees 5 hours after the start.

That prize money story sounds pretty stupid. What does the IAAF care if Dubai reduces what they're giving to runners ? Does the IAAF get a fixed cut of the total amount or something ?
Because a big part of their mission is to develop and promote running worldwide. More and more athletes making a living wage from sport alone would be included in the development of the sport.
Looking forward to watching this tonight. How many sub-elite Americans around here have traveled out to Dubai to run? What was your experience like? If I run it next year, I'd probably be targeting 2:29, but there are very few runners going out at 1:14-1:15. It's too slow for even the slowest women's elites, and there are almost no random 2:30-ish runners showing up. Would I have an OK time running it mostly on my own?
From the travel/cost side, I have looked into it a bit, and I can fly out for $1000 or just a bit less if I book at the right time. Airbnbs are super inexpensive; a few days in a nice place could be $200-ish total. Registration is $100-something IIRC. The whole trip could be like $1500. This isn't even much more than doing, say, NYC, which would cost me probably $1200 or so ($250-ish reg, $500-ish flight from where I am, probably $200+ a night for lodging).

Never done the race, but I've been to Dubai a bunch and it's well worth it. It's unlike anything else.. amazing city. Safe, fun, lots to do.

Last year there were only maybe 5 or 6 "Americans" under 3 hours (Top 120 or so) and most all of those were from S America. For some reason unbeknownst to me, this race attracts Ethiopian elites and almost solely European sub elites. So I don't expect you'll get even one LR poster who has even run this race let alone at the pace you're looking at. 3 hours until the start!!!
Is it 45 min now until the start?

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the course pretty much out and back with no change in scenery? I think I watched one year and it just seemed kind of boring.
I tend to watch the running, not the scenery

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't most NFL stadiums a bowl full of fans?
PS. Race organizers have made it so you - the diehard fans - can watch the action for free right here on LetsRun.com:

Yes
I'm tuned in but no sound.
The elites starting seperately to the masses this year after Kenny B almost got trampled to death a couple of years ago!
Tigist Assefa debuting in the women's race ran the 800 in the Rio Olympics! She has a 1:59 PB at that distance.
Better than decent video considering it's pitch black out
Is anyone else getting sound?
Nevermind - plug in the headphones. :-)
looked like another 3:00 K. , so 3, 2:50, and a 3 for an 8:50 3K
Anyone see Jeilan (debut) in lead pack?
DNS?
Paula Radcliffe on the race broadcast said that the pacemakers have been assigned very quick paces: 61:30 at halfway for the men, 69:30 for the women.
Will be interesting to see how close they come to those splits. That's not ridiculously aggressive for the women, but it is for the men.
Weather is a little cooler than usual for Dubai, 65 degrees at the start. But the humidity is 86% right now.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
