How long will sponsors keep paying her for this trash? Sets up hype, posts something like "no matter what happens I'm so proud of myself!!1", and then drops out. This is not relatable to the people. If I have paid to fly across the country for a race and can't sustain the pace I am on and hurt a lot, I muster some motivation and keep trucking until the finish line.
Wow, you are so tough and brave, you are my idol. Instead of thrashing your body for a time or place that means nothing... how about thinking that you put 6 months into training for a good time and you're not going to waste it on a bad day for the sake of finishing. There is no glory in finishing a race you have time or position goals for just to be disappointed and recovering from for the next 3 weeks just to say look at how tough I am.
Bow out and reload. If you think the scars from that will mean you'll quit when it gets tough on a good day, I've news for you- it wont make any difference. You guys just overthink it. Top elite athletes are a lot tougher than you and do it all the time because it is the smart and logical choice and they don't have to prove how tough they are to themselves or anyone else.
