I am a teacher who has been running three to five miles a day in our small gym at school. It is only 220 feet around the gym once. To break up the monotony of always turning the same direction, I used to run six laps and then turn around and run six laps in the other direction. For the past month or so, I have been running five laps, doing leg lifts, running five laps the other way, planking for 90 seconds, running five laps the other way, doing ten push-ups and repeating this until I am finished running. I do not take breathers; I try to get to my "mini workouts" quickly and begin running immediately when finished. Are these "mini workouts" interrupting the benefits of my runs? Or is this a good, somewhat varied version of interval training? I am relatively new to running so any advice would be helpful. Thanks!
