Will Paula ever run Comrades?
Will Paula ever run Comrades?
I hope so!It is a grand race with lots of history. I hope many marathoners of today move up to Ultras.
would she better in the up or the down?

YOU ARE SO THE STARTER OF THIS THREAD!
Interesting question about the up or the down race... her past history indicates that she has trouble on difficult and hilly courses and difficult weather. I think most experienced Comrades participants would agree that the up is less damaging on your body, but it would be great to see someone the caliber of Radcliffe run Comrades, much like when the great Alberto Salazar won in 1994 (up year).
Someone want to explain the up/down thing? Thanks

They reverse the direction of the run every year. One year it's more uphill the next year more downhill.
This is very very high on the list of "who cares" questions. Do you actually believe that someone running 10,000s and marathons as fast as she is should ever run Comrades?
Mens winner Sipho Ngomane(S. Africa)-5:27:15
Womens Division-Tatiana Zhivkov(Russia)5;58:50
Durban is sea level and Pietermartzburg is about a half mile high.Distance is a bit over two Marathons (89+ K) I think.
Salad Czar ran it in 94 I believe, I learned of it from Ted Corbitt in the 50's and/or 60s',lots of great names have come to run this historic race.

Well, she's not the prettiest runner out there, but I bet she'd be pretty good going down.
thanks mate
I have a memory of a film about a coach(white)and his female runner(black)using the Comrades race as a backdrop.I'd guess in was produced in South Africa but I'm not all that sure.
Any help on this out there?
I actually own that movie (found it in a discount box for $4). I'm pretty sure it's called "The Long Run". I wouldn't call it a great movie, but it's not horrible.
Paula is used to running too fast to maintain her pace for Comrades distance. She would probably fall apart before 70km like most Comrades runners with a background in track.
How many Comrades runners with a background in track, also hold the world marathon record. She'd be fine, but they'd never be able to pay her enough to run. Sad, but thats life.
