Do the Krazy Kraniks burn kids out so the non-elites dont run after H.S.?
How many get stress fractures from too much, too soon?
Why are you so convinced they burn kids out and that their approach is crazy or even unusual? Every single kid I know who was a serious athlete in HS in the last 10 years committed time, effort and money to the pursuit of their sport that those of us who were athletes 20+ years ago would find insane. I’m talking about kids who specialized in specific positions in their one sport starting before the age of 10, and played only that sport year round. Whose parents spent thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars on private coaches, elite travel teams, camps, showcases, strength/agility training at private gyms, sports psychologists, etc. - all at the “suggestion” of their main coach. Some of these kids were recruited, a few had decent college careers - but not a single one made it to the pros in their respective sports. I never once heard someone complain that these coaches were crazy or burning out these kids or - probably the fairest criticism - that they were selling these families a fantasy that this enormous investment would somehow pay off in the form of big scholarships and pro salaries. If we want to call out the “professionalization” of HS sports, let’s be honest and admit it’s a problem across the board, and it’s not just two coaches in some small town in the middle of nowhere.
