Hey guys,
First off I'm kinda new here, but I have posted before, and I have seen some of the advice given to other runners with questions. For the most part, it is has been really helpful and informative. I would have posted this in one of the other mileage threads, but I didn't want to steal other people's "thunder."
Anyway, I'm just a little confused about summer training. I will be a senior in high school and I really need a scholarship, (partial) to college...it's not looking too good. As a sophmore I ran 16:16 in the 3mile XC, 4:33 and 9:50, and I did not improve at all as a junior, (overtraining in conjuncture with anemia..really bad experience).
Last summer I did about 40-45mpw over summer inconsistently with a TON of tempos, (at least 2-3 per week), and every run, both easy and "medium effort" were all too fast. I sucked in XC obviously, and only ran a 16:14 3 mile, (a 2sec improvement).
I have decided to boost it up to 65-70 per week this summer like this: 48, 55, 65, 70, 70, 70, 75, 70, 75,~80
I run at about 6:20-30 pace for steady runs, (I did 9.3 miles at 6:27 pace yesterday to complete week #1 at 48 miles).
I guess I will build up to a 16-17 mile long run (2 hrs.) by week 6-7
I'm just wondering what kind of workouts I will have to do/ waht kind of pace, ect. MY GOAL IS A 15:45-55 5k. Is this enough to get me there?
If you need more info, just ask, and thank you for the help! You have no idea how much this site assists me; I have no coach.
Thanks!
