Wow, no one mentioned Andrew Wood?
If he hadn't died, there would never have been Pearl Jam and it's arguable that Mother Love Bone rather than Nirvana would have been the band to put Seattle on the map in the 90s.
I forgot about Andrew Wood, but you're right. He could have bridged the divide between hair metal and grunge and been the biggest rock god of the 90s.
JUst getting to this thread now, but that's what i was going to say.
Truly, he was just getting started, and if you listen to the Seattle Grunge muscians, they all pay tribute to this great artist. His songs with Mother LOve Bone were just top notch: Stargazer, Chloe Dancer / Crown Of Thorns, Stardog Champion.
But for God's sake, how about Layne Staley of "Alice in Chains'?!
And no wonder you posted 10 pages and missed that, becuase fact is, you missed the biggest loss of them all. Yep, wait for it.......................

Only a few on that list were untimely.
Robert Johnson is the only one that really had years of great music and songwriting ahead of him for years to come.

A guitarist mate of mine backed the great Sonny Boy Williamson when he toured the UK back in the 60s.

No untimely death but he destroyed himself with drugs. Sly Stone. I feel like we were robbed of some great music from this guy. Very talented.
Gershwin.
Clifford Brown. Jazz trumpeter.
Karen Carpenter.
Freddie Mercury.

After watching Montage of Heck, I feel that despite being a musical genius, Kurt Cobain was a terrible human being and the world is probably better off without him.
why don't you just keep to the subject and keep your social commentary to yourself?
The question is, who's death has robbed us of great music.
I for one feel saddened by the loss of such a talent.
Nobody has mentioned Pergolesi?
