You’re barking up the wrong tree, Bud. I always post under the name Lucas Tanner, and I don’t remember any other threads about music that I’ve started.

Oops. Responder to the wrong person.
All of those listed had peaked and fallen. What you heard was as good (or bad) s it was going to get.

Presley was an overweight lounge act when he died and Lennon was never good after the Beatles.
The guy who was had the most untapped talent when he died, was Jimi Hendrix.
Elvis was overweight, but he could still sing.
Regarding Lennon never being good after the Beatles, we can only "Imagine" what he could have done.
Stevie Ray Vaughn was every bit as good as Hendrix, and he didn't do himself in like Hendrix.
I'm sure Elvis could still sing but he was not a songwriter so it's hard to say what would have happened. My guess he would have stayed out of the studio and focused on shows in Las Vegas.
I thought Imagine was a simplistic song and I tired of it after hearing it about ten times. And of course, multi-millionaire Lennon singing about "no possessions" is a joke. I can't think of a Lennon song as good as what he did with the Beatles. Same with McCartney.

That could only somewhat plausibly be applied to Williams and Whitley, solely due to the alcoholism. It doesn’t fit at all for Holly, Redding, or Cline.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, as long as you're aware that you're wrong.

Intentionally.
Rory Gallagher:
Well at least you spelled 'intentionally' correctly.

I seriously doubt any of these would have survived the Beatles.
Hendrix was already starting to take his music to different places. Who knows where it would have ended up.
also, Mozart.
Come to think of it....I agree with the poster above that said that all suggestions on this thread would basically produced more of the same (or mostly worse than their heyday). Great music is totally subjective, so it basically comes down to who would likely have produced the most great stuff if they'd lived to 90 or whatever. Mozart wins easy.

We aren't comparing guitarists. Jimi was a songwriter and would likely have continued to crank out great music. And any cool guy is not going to claim to be the greatest.
