For those wondering, I'm guessing Merber isn't in the field as he recently had surgery for a sports hernia about 3 weeks back (judging from his Instagram).

I am not in the field because I had surgery three weeks ago to reattach both my adductors to my pubus plate and to lengthen my psoas and rectus femoris. Had been running through a lot of pain the last 1.5 years but it became unbearabale this spring.

Why isn't King Ches lacing up his Hoka spikes and running this? Injured?
Probably because he's sponsored by Skechers, not Hoka.

I'm on train to race now. These previews were great. Been moving the last 2 weeks so it got me informed quickly. It is hot for sure. Didn't even think of bringing a jacket.
My error, all these shoes are starting to look alike. Anyway, Ed must be injured, laying low, or just training hard in Flag.
He'll be back, hopefully running for U.S.A. before too long.
And, now back to tonight's race. Expect steamy conditions and slow times.

so, it's 01:32 in the morning here in the UK and I'm sat at my desk watching the live webcast of the Long Island Mile. does that make me a nerd, a geek or a dork?
cheers.
Maybe you're just an insomniac. Or, perhaps you're worried about the collapse of the British empire caused by socialist policies undermining the fabric and traditions of a once great nation.

Will we see you running this next year?
Was Ben's former mile PR 4:07.05?

Pretty sure it was 4:07, with a 1500 PR of 3:47. I'd bet he'd have been able to run 4:00-4:03 before this year at some point (with enough opportunities focusing on the mile), but a 3:57 - and this outdoor season as a whole - has certainly shown the training is finally clicking.
On a side note, I've heard he's always crushed the Arb hill, so I can't say I'm too surprised that he is racing at a higher level than he has shown before.
Does Flanagan really only have a 3:47.6 (1500m), 8:04 (3000m) and 13:48 (5000m) PB?
Seems like all these PBs will come crashing down soon. The 1500m probably already has if they times the 1500m today.
Why are all his current PBs so slow?

He hasn’t been good for long.
3:57.8 @LI Mile
It's really unfortunate for him that the season is over. He currently has some serious PBs in him.
He wins Falmouth 7 mile run and runs a 3:57.7 mile. That's sub 13:20 5000m shape.
Letsrun regular statfanatic won the men’s subelite race in ~4:07. Way to go stat.
congratulations to Ben Flanagan (CAN) in 6th place with 3:57.75 and Sam Parsons (USA) in 10th with 3:59.70 who both ran their first sub-4 mile tonight.
Parsons is the 29th American to debut this year while Flanagan is the 2nd Canadian to do so. the first was Corey Bellemore who went sub-4 in Boston in January. and that makes, by my reckoning, 30 sub-4 miles at the Long Island Mile in the past four years with the meet record still being held by David Torrence, who was at the time still a US citizen back in September 2015 when he won the first Long Island Mile in 3:53.91 from Garrett Heath and tonight's meet director Kyle Merber was 3rd in 3:58.38.
cheers.
