Jorgensen ran 2:41:01 in her debut in New York in 2016, but she ran that off of two months of limited training following her Olympic triathlon gold medal. She says Chicago is her "first real marathon."
Thoughts? What time will she run?

DNS or DNF
Wild guess:
First place in 2:22:24
If the weather is good, 2:28-29.
I'm guessing she goes under 2:30, but not by much. Maybe 2:28 high to 2:29 mid.
I am guessing she shoots for 2:27 low based on that sub 1:110 half on a challenging Pittsburgh course. )I would much prefer that she shoot for 2:29 so that I could ride her coattails and not have to think at all during the race.)
I like it as a first choice. Too big of a chance in NYC with the women's headstart that she could be running all alone for a significant section. The mixed/mass start gives her a chance to get paced by a group of men running 2:30.
I'm going with SMS: Show Me Something.
She hasn't done anything in the distance to warrant the hype she has (whether this from herself, her team, the media, whatever).
Do I want her to run fast? Of course, I would never hope someone doesn't.
2:35
American record. You heard it here first.
2:33
If she runs 2:17 then she won't sound foolish talking about a Gold Medal
If she runs 2:22 she has a strong chance of making the U.S. team.
If she runs 2:26 then she will need a minor miracle to make the team.
Do not be fooled by what Hasay or Cragg run because they are both injured. They will both be back by the trials.
2:31. She's not cut out for the marathon.
My prediction: good or bad race, she will spend more time social mediaing about herself than she will preparing and performing
Every major sport has massive social media presence... God forbid someone try build the sport with the

Amazingly coming from triathlon, she seems to be better at the shorter stuff. However, I'm going to go with low 2:30s - sub 2:30 would show real potential at this stage.

Running does not need a big social media presence, and that is the reason why those sports have the issues that they have. Running is fine just the way it is. It does not need silly commercial stuff, or over the top marketing and exposure. The sport is already dealing with a lot of diluted stuff as it. It does not need more.
Swimming, cycling, running are individual endurance sports, and those sports are about developing and pushing the body through natural mechanics. If running needs to add fake glory stories and reality episodes, then something is wrong. Endurance sports glory has always come from great INDIVIDUAL accomplishments : winning gold, breaking WRs, going the distance, etc.
Endurance sports have always been SERIOUS sports. Just because the world or people have become silly and soft does not mean that endurance sports have to become silly and soft.
Yep, she is built for the 5000, the marathon should not be her focus
Not sure why no one is talking about Parker Stinson on the men's side? He's probably the only American in the field - other than Rupp - with a shot at 2:10 or better. What he did at CIM was more impressive than Ritchie winning in 2:11 or McCandless' 2:12.
But Stinson's approach could come back to bite him - he may try to hang with Galen and Mo for 20 miles then die another slow death to the finish....

You think she posts more on social media then any other athlete? Having an online presence though social media and other marketing is ubiquitous. It's far more unusual for an athlete (or anyone who doesn't make money through sponsorship/marketing) to not have an online presence.
Also - how much time do you think it takes to post a picture on Instagram once a day?
I get that people are somehow upset about her bold goal of winning Olympic gold in 2020, but, what should a gold metal Olympic athlete wanting to try marathon make as her goal? She hasn't been too unrealistic about her abilities in any interview I've seen recently. Watch the one after her half marathon in Pittsburgh. She talked about her lack of mileage and the huge advantage everyone else had because of their years of putting in the mileage. It sounds liek she knows just how huge of a goal she set. I don't think she's got enough time to get to where she wants to be by 2020, but having committed to doing marathons, what other goal should she have set for motivation and sponsorship? Kinda seems like setting the ground work for 2024 to me, meanwhile attracting the media attention her sponsors will enjoy so she can continue to be paid to be an athlete.
