Only semi-related, but if you qualify for the east regional meet but to not progress beyond that, can you credibly claim to have gone to nationals?

This has got to be the most worthless thread ever. So trivial.
I went to a D-1 school, but didn't run track. Can I still refer to myself as "Former D1"?

Apparently not.
Still living in the past you are. Nobody cares that you never made it big.
And 100% if former D2 guys never see real Nationals.
Vincent Kiprop?
Strong coping skills. D1 is a legit measuring stick. OP is just jealous. It's like Varsity vs. JV.

Na man, you answered that question yourself..."east regional meet". It's not called Nationals so you didn't make it

Still doesn't make you former D1. Enjoy your finishers medal from Baby Nationals. About as impressive as your diploma from Chico State.
Who cares if it’s baby nationals or not. I’m in hs, but will probably choose to go to an naia school or division 2 for various reasons. We shouldn’t care about d1 or not as if it makes it better, care about times. Otherwise those running in hs could say, “my school had 3k in it and I ran 10:10”, or a kid could say, “my school has 200 kids but I ran 9:10”. Even though the second kid had a “baby state meet” he was still wayyyy better. This same thing applies in college. Non d1 is a weaker national meet, but times should be what matters and not divisions
A 19 year old male walk on at Portland State University with a 17:53 lifetime 5K best can technically call himself a "D1" runner. The title is essentially bogus.
Reminds me of the DyeStat kids years ago that finished near the rear of their state JV championships or local Footlocker XC qualifier that would pump themselves up as "State Finalist".
Times matter, divisions do not.

Oh, I definitely didn't make it. I am just a lowly D3 baby nats scrub.
I was asking because I have heard guys refer to what I would think of as "regionals" as "nationals." I think they are operating under the premise that the regional meets are functionally preliminary rounds of nationals.
Just trying to understand the games that all the big kids are playing.

Agreed... all these "Former D1" guys just want to go tell mommy and daddy they wear a jersey. Congrats... you're an insignificant D1 jersey rack holder.
It is a meaningless term. There are D1 teams that are flat out terrible. TERRIBLE. If you're trying to establish your running credentials, list your PRs, NOT "former D1".
So everyone who has replied to this thread (including the OP) needs to list their PRs.
Mine:
1 Mile: 4:38
5K: 14:58
10k: 34:55
Half Marathon: 1:22
Marathon: 3:17
Waist size: 32 (I mark through the 32 and write 31 on my jeans - it's my version of Former D1).
HS PR- 4:19 / 9:22
Mile- 4:17
3k- 8:31
5k- 15:04
"former d1 athlete" lol
I studied at Harvard. Okay, I visited Harvard and studied the baseball box scores one time.
I went to Stanford. To visit a friend.
I competed in the Rose Bowl. Well...it was a local 5k that ended in the Rose Bowl.
I won the lottery!!! Okay, it was a $5 scratcher.
I drove in the Indy 500...at the arcade at the mall.
I was once a D1 runner. Yeah...so back it up with some substance that you actually ran fast.

These PRs are weird. In HS you could run sub 22 in the 200, and sub 1730 in the 5k, (not to mention 10 miles at like 6:15 pace at high altitude) yet only 1:58 in the 800?
Basically the same story in college. Did you only run the 800 twice in your life or something? It really doesn't line up with the other data points.
