Just found this thread.
I know nothing about mid-d training or tapering, so this is a fun trip for me.
Will you be setting the date in advance, like a meet situation, or will you just hit it when you feel good?

Is Moby update?
Sorry I didn't update this. I really started to focus on the training and didn't want any distractions or outside voices. I really convinced myself that I was ready and didn't want to seek outside validation -- really wanted to trust the process. I'm proud of that. I came just short and was too bummed for a while to post an update afterwards.
June 5: 800m TT: 1:53.2 (56.xx - 57.xx)
Had a buddy take me through 400m -- a bit slower than I wanted but I closed pretty well. This was a confidence booster because I had definitely been coming from the overdistance side of things in training and ran within .5 of my 800m PB. Did a 3mi tempo about 20 minutes after this.
June 19: 1mi TT: 4:06.8 (60-2:01-3:04-4:06)
Had my little brother take me through about 900m. Felt way too hard and by the time I hit 1k I was basically gassed. I think I might have done a couple really hard sessions too close to this. i tried to squeeze in my biggest stuff between that 800 and the last two TT.
June 26: 1mi TT: 4:02.7 (61-2:02-3:02-4:02)
Really pulled back for this week and felt much better. I also decided my best shot was to try and even split or slight negative split and use my strength the go hard from 600 out. Once again had my brother pacing and he made it about 1000m this time. The goal was the come through 800 in 2:01-2:02. I felt really smooth the whole way. At 1200 I really thought I had a shot at it, but the next gear was just not there. surged on the back stretch and just wasn't getting any faster. last 100 felt like the last 100 of an 800. carrying a weight on my back.
The best sessions leading up were:
May 29: 3x(600, 300jog, 300) with 600j between sets. [1'30 / 43] [1'30 / 44] [1'29 / 43]
June 12: 2x(600/400/300/200) @ (1:32--60--44--28) (1:30--59--43--27) [400jog/300jog/200jog] 600 jog between sets
Based off of those i knew it was going to be close but I thought I had a shot. The 600 breakdowns were the best I have done and I have been doing them since college. Looking back, I think 3:44-3:45 for 1500 was what you would estimate from my training - and I was right around there.
I finished grad school in May and didn't hit the mark that I chased, but I went from 3:51 for 1500m all the way down to 4:02. I think maybe next year I could get it. That feels realistic to me. I haven't decided whether or not I will give it another full go because I am just starting a new job. Not sure how easy it will be to train and work at the same time. I have thought about just training for the roads now as it might be less time consuming/structured and so that I won't have to be driving all over to find open tracks.
Thanks to everyone on this thread for the advice and encouragement
lol. Glad to see an end to the troll.
