I've struggled with intermittent achilles tendon pain over the past few years, but I've learned to control it (by slowly ramping up mileage, avoiding too much intensity, and taking the occasional day off before things get worse). Recently, I've developed a new pain that's not quite in my achilles, and I was wondering what part of my body is actually hurting and how I should treat it.
I'm having trouble describing the location, so bear with me. I'm experiencing pain on the inside rear portion of my ankle/heel, extending from about 3-4 inches up my leg (if you start from the bottom of my foot) to about 7 inches up. Put another way, the pain occurs in a line extending upwards from the midpoint of an imaginary line connecting my achilles and the bone on my inner ankle that sticks out. Does this make sense?
It's not in the back of my leg, where the achilles tendon is. Or is this all the same tendon? I've been treating the injury like all connective tissue injuries, with rest as needed and lots of ice. Is there anything else I can do?
