It could be amazing... tough for guys like Sagan from small countries, but this could infuse life into the tour.
teams are basically national anyways. Like everyone knows Sky is the British team. What TDF really needs is to clean up the sport. If Asbel Kiprop were a cyclist, his tea money story probably would have flied.

I think Sagan could beat any of them by himself...with the exception of the Belgiums.

He already has. 3x world champion (in a row), where teams compete based on nationality.
In the 1930s the teams of the Tour de France were national teams on yellow bikes with no brand names. The idea was to make the tour more competitive, because in the 1920s the teams based on the bike manufacturers kinds of rigged it. It is a good idea but the money in cycling comes from sponsorship of cycling equipment makers and others. You could keep some of it, but the sponsors need to see their name on tv and other media.
