Literally everyone in the field (with the exception of Sean McGorty) has run 3:37 or faster. How on earth is that a weak field? Is it because you're not seeing names in the final that you're used to? (Blakenship, Manzano?). Maybe its a sign that Centro stood the test of time and is literally the only one from the previous years that still has it. All these younger guys are the ones that you have to start getting used to seeing in the finals because that is who you're going to start seeing.. Fuh outta here with that "weak field" BS. A lot of talk from people that probably have never broken 4:30 in the mile.

And Sean has run 3:53 for the mile, so I think he qualifies as an elite. Not sure who was missing to make this a "weak" field. Ben Blankenship and Robby Andrews are the main ones who were missing from the final. Leo when he's in good form.
Cento, you got blown away by a 17 yr old, so don't be cocky about winning a race at 4min pace

Yeah and Ben and Robby couldn't even make the final. Clearly not as weak of a field as people think

Two US guys in the NCAA just went #5 and #2 on their events all-time list. Where is Centro on his event's all-time list?
Chelimo and Cheserek?

Well Blankenship didn't even declare for USAs so I don't think you can quite say he "couldn't even make the final"... Robby, though, yeah.

I agree that 3:37 is fast in most every context not on the world stage. But for 20 years there have been about five 3:34 performances each year by Americans, so guys who max out at 3:35-3:37 haven't really contended since Jason Pyrah's reign in the last millenium, which ended with Alan Webb's emergence.
