Lots of isolation exercises?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8BNP126zgPUYeah, body builders do a crapton of isolations. Even Ron, and just because he does some proper heavy lifting also doesn't negate that. (He's well-known for lifting extremely heavy compounds -- and now he's a wreck, hrm. I guess moderation in all things, including moderation.)
Of course. Lots of lifters use isolation exercises to some extent so I don’t really see the rub. Why is it a negative thing?
As someone who’s competed as a runner and completed ONE bodybuilding show and currently lifts and runs I will say you can’t compare the two pursuits.
Preparing for a bodybuilding show is a 24 hr affair for 12-16 weeks or longer. The diet takes a lot of mental discipline and maturity. I like to eat, hence only one show.
The discomfort of running hard is just different than the discomfort of lifting a lot of weight. I would compare sets of 10-12 reps with the discomfort of doing 400m reps, especially if doing deadlifts or squats.
Deadlifting or Squatting over twice your bodyweight for a couple reps. That feeling you don’t get from running. It’s more of a carnal testosterone boost to your ego.

Better question, why do marathon runners always feel the need to convince everyone (mostly themselves, lets be real) that what they do is so much harder than other physical acticities/sports. Marathon training is probably the easiest of all running distances. Requires discipline to stay consistent and run wisely but there is nothing tough about jogging a bunch of miles all the time. Body building is pretty much the same, consistently workout lots and plan routines wisely.
Training for any sport is as hard as the individual effort one puts into it. I’m a runner and I don’t body build, but I find going to the gym easier than a run workout. It’s inside, lots of attractive women around... gym days are hard but I like them. They feel easy and they are indoors and climate controlled. Track work outs and tempo runs are much more difficult for me to get through. However, I imagine body builders may feel the same. I imagine for them their “workouts” would probably be more demanding and feel easy as compared to doing an hour of HIIT.
Still, two and a half hour runs early in the morning on cold rainy days... who wouldn’t rather be in a gym watching a hot girls snatch?
We typically do sprints anyways to burn access fat during phase 3 of our training, and close to comps. So that 10x400 is just a stable of what we do. Nothing speical. And you said it best Mr. Alan that it's a 24 hr affayer, there isn't a moment that goes by that I'm not planning meals or workout sets. Must runners run to relax. Builders are at a constant war and it ain't a ego thing. We are wired to be hunters, whereas runners are just wired to scatter when the real hunters roll up. Believe me, that's the difference. You see it in the clubs too. When we roll up to the clubs, they (women) come to us like we are protection and the lessers hide on the sides. Just my 2cent obversation.
A lot of people on this thread coming at me cause they don't just understand BB or what it takes to be consistent at the gym. That's why you are nerds because ya'll go on the defensive whenever someone threatens whatever manhood you 125 pound vegan runners have.
ProBuilder peacing out for the day. Take it easy, like your Fartleck runs.
You are not at constant war. That is so funny. Most body builders cant even walk up stairs without passing out. Most are slow as hell too....couldnt fight anyone. I have no fear of a slow gorilla....what are you going to do? Hug me with youre huge pecs and weak hands. Omg I just benched 225 18 times...better go eat 18 eggs and count my macros. Youre anaerobic capacity only lasts a few short moments of 2 and a half out mirror state. Trying running up a mountain at max heart rate for 2 hours. Youre lifestyle is lame
What about bodybuilder´s manhood? Those sexy nipples?

Body builders can spend hours in the gym looking at the same equipment day in and day out. That takes a certain kind of persistence. As monotonous as running can be we see different sights during our runs and likely spend equal or less time per day actually exercising. Sure, lifting can be pretty casual and downright social, but you're still cooped up all the time. Credit to those guys and gals for keeping at it.

I cross train in the gym. Most of them just play on their phones. Pretty simple.
Sooo...In my Army days (1.5 years ago), this thin runner wrestled this taller bigger bodybuilder. Guess who won? The runner dude! The runner to his credit had run a 4:01 1500m in college.
