I totally agree. Ultrarunning is dumb as f***. These freaks are separated from their circus, and Karnazes = PT Barnum.

Scott Jurek is entered in this year's Badwater Ultra. Will Karnazes finish before Jurek is back home in bed in Seattle?
I bet DK no-shows.
Meanwhile, down the street, you can see baby Hercules and the bearded lady for $1.
will the bearded lady be eating pizza and cheesecake?
Has anyone read his book? I've seen it given away as a "prize" at several races lately.
I would have to bet on Jurek to beat Karnazes, and destroy the course record in the process, but anything can happen in those kind of races.
Someone loaned me DK's book. I don't believe half the shit he brags about in the book. I mean who could be half way through a 30 mile run, after not training for 15 years, and stop a Taco Bell and slam down eight tacos while running!!!! It is kind of funny though.
It is the "JIG" is up.

lol..i was just about to comment on that
I know guys who do those ultra relay races say they can only eat bananas and bagels for so long and long for a pizza or a burrito in their race, so I don't doubt that story too much.
I've done quite a few 50k's and 50 milers and 2 100 milers. In the 50's I'd never eat a pizza, now in the 100's late in the game anything goes. Best aid station ever is 95 mile mark in the Arkansas Traveller- pumpkin pie, yeah baby!
Your right...he won't show.
That is because he has been selected to be part of the US Team at the World 24 hour championships.
Jurek, he has got his work cut out for him. This is not Western States. The entry list also includes the record holder for the Marathon De Sables.
If most of you knew anything about Ultrarunning besides what you read on this board or when some article is done about Jurek in RW or RT you would know these things. You would know that Scott Jurek has run several 100's besides WS and the only one he has ever won has been that one. That includes races at Hardrock, Angeles Crest, Vermont, Leadville and Wasatch. Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking Scott. I am one of his biggest fans, but his entry does not guarantee that everyone else is racing for 2nd. I dont think Dean would not show because Scott is entered, he runs against Scott at WS every year.

Karnazes is nothing. Now, if he were to complete Badwater while juggling knives and dragging a Michelin steel belted radial behind him, I'd be impressed.
Ultrarunning is some stupid shit.

So is your login name, but you still chose to use it.
Ultrarunning is a challenge. It's mental, physical, physiological and affects you on a chemical level in your endochrin system. It offers people a different challege.
Jon Sinclair is running WS this year and he was voted one of the US's Top 10 road racers of all time on this very forum, so is he just doing some stupid shit?
Dave Scott, Ironman Champ many times. Ultrarunner, and Ultrarunning Race Director.
Stay away, it's not for you. You still posted on this thread though, so you must be fan.

I have to agree with Ron Mexico.
I ran my first ultra last year because I was bored with the 5k-marathon thing and I wasn't doing so hot besides. I need something diffrent - less pressure filled.
Marathons hurt no doubt, but ultras hurt longer and often just as bad. I'm running in the 100k World Cup in June and a lot of those guys go through the marathon ~2:35 and then keep going. The top guys average 6:00-6:10 per mile.
Ultrarunning is no diffrent than marathons or 5ks. There is a wide spectrum of runners that do them for a wide variety of reasons.
I really encourage people to try a 50 mile race. Train for it and then go back to the marathons. The distance is no longer an issue. There is no fear left because when you train for an ultra you feel like you could run all day. You feel like you could run across the country. All of a sudden 26.2 is a drop in the bucket...the first half of your long run.
What about the great Pam Reed I am sure she will throw down with them as well! You know she can run for 300 miles non stop!
Ultrarunning is not running. It is Gallowalking over a 100 mile course.
It's not a sport but a stunt akin to eating goldfish or eating one of those 4 pound hamburgers in the Hardee's commercial. Its appeal is not for excellence but insanity. It is masochism, and the people that do this shit are not athletes but lunatics who can't put up a good time in a marathon.
It's like that magician David Blaine who ran out of card and coin tricks, so he started putting himself in boxes, shitting in plastic bags, and pissing through a catheter in order to make a spectacle out of himself. As Chris Rock put it, where's the magic in that?
Stupid.
Fortunately for everyone, you are not the person who gets to decide what is and is not running.
BADWATER ULTRAMARATHON
Bunch of people staggering around in 130 degree heat with people in a van squirting them down with water every five minutes or so. Stupid shit.
10,000m track race
Bunch of people just going around in circles with people in seats shouting at them every five minutes or so. If that isn't stupid I don't know what is.
