There is a chorus of people who are calling for gun control, but it doesn't get done because the cultural divide between pro gun and types and anti-gun types is so wide. This is why the broadsides against the NRA require a deeper understanding - the culture drives the NRA, and not the other way around.

In any event, being from Chicago, I was thinking of one gun control method which would work if enforced. If Chicago adopted New York's stance on carrying handguns, i.e., doing so being a felony with a mandatory minimum one year stint in prison. Of course, Chicago would have to enforce the law for it to work, but it is reasonable to think it could be done. But can you imagine the immediate first order consequences? There is a population which many believe is already considerably over-incarcerated (both true and false at the same time - a complex subject), and it would just zoom upwards upon the enactment of this kind of law. So the gun control question needs lots of facts and candor, and not just narrative.

Whoa, two bullets, two dead shooting through a window. And a 59-year old perp. That is a bit crazy to say the least.

As I understand it, two black men sat in Starbucks without buying anything, the manageress asked them to leave, they refused and she called the police. The police asked them to move and they refused, so the police arrested them.

Now the manageress has been sacked and Starbucks have issued a grovelling apology.

So does that mean we can all just use Starbucks as a convenient place to sit and relax without having to buy anything?

How long could a company last with that sort of policy?

If law enforcement was armed, this kind of stuff wouldn't happen.

Care to elaborate on how he had "such easy access to a gun," and what laws you propose that would have actually stopped these murders? Me and the crickets will be waiting...

You've never gone into a Starbucks or known someone who's gone into a Starbucks and not purchased anything and even, heaven forbid, used the men's room? I have no idea why the manager immediately went nuclear on these two guys whether they were white, black or any other race. The manager should have been fired just for being a douche.
