Your coach may be trying to make the practices more fun and social so the people in different events (sprints, distances, throws, horizontal/vertical jumps) don't know or talk to the other people. Unfortunately, HS coaches don't get paid well. (They usually do it as an after-school job for teachers to earn extra pay in an extra-curricular activity.) So, the quality of coaching can vary widely. It also takes time to adjust to a new coach and their system. You've been at your new school two weeks. It sounds like you've already talked to your coach, without any result. Talk to her again about what your goals are for the season, and what you can do in the team workouts or on your own (morning runs, weekends) to help reach those goals. It might be lifting, it might be drills, it might be more mileage. If she doesn't help you out, then you may need to do some supplemental training on your own and keep it to yourself.
