I was deeply into the books, probably same as you. It's super fascinating stuff. Googled all the interviews etc. Pictures of Beck Weathers. All that stuff.
One thing is that I heard Lene Gammelgaard talk once. She was the Danish woman trying to become first Scandinavian women to climb Everest. She described Boukarev as the hero and Krakauer as a self-serving rat, who just wanted a great story.
She described Boukarev as a fairly poor Russian guy, who climbed in the shoes he had used as a shot putter. He would carry people down to safety like a super hero all night.
Another great story she tells is that someone had brought a computer with the movie Cliffhanger on it. All the westerners were watching it and making fun of it, but the Sherpas thought it was the most fascinating thing they had ever seen.
