I've always admired Patti Sue for her various athletic and academic accomplishments. Great hire for Coach Flo and the Longhorns.

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA! I knew the hiring situation was a struggle for Floreal, but I thought for sure he’d be able to find someone better than this! Talk about a no name.
How many people do you think turned down the job before settling on Peppermint Patti?
Another Embarrassing Day for Texas. Maybe she can get the Texas girls qualified up for NIRCA nationals...
Almost feel bad for Floreal. Hyped up his Distance hire and is falling on his face just a few weeks on the job. He should’ve stayed at Kentucky...
It seems like all the big job positions. Somehow go thru Palo Alto. Interesting connecting web.

Should bring in Alan Turner!!!!
Sorry those boxes are not on my list.
Communication skills
Teaching skills
Writes individual training and workouts for their athletes
Technical knowledge
Produces All Americans on the track and expects that in the classroom
Comes from a prodigious coaching tree
He not only checks those but feel he is one the top throws coaches in the country period. Why are we talking about color or gender. We are talking about coaches.
1st time I've ever seen Coaches News Network post and thought, man - you don't know what you're talking about... She's coaching at TEXAS now. Making $150,000+ and she's got no real collegiate coaching credentials. She'll get recruits because it's TEXAS... but has she ever recruited someone.. can she out recruit another top school in the SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 12, ACC? She was a phenomenal runner in her day... absolutely... a great coach, this does not make, however. This proves desperation. Couldn't happen to a bigger bunch of entitled folks than the UT family.

Texas women's distance has never been that great. He's going to put more money into sprints, jumps, throws and he found a female coach that he has history with that he probably trusts. If she gets a star every now and then because it's Texas, great.
LRC will never be satisfied lol
First y'all complain about the same people getting all the jobs.
Then if it's a new name then y'all complain they have no experience, can't coach and can't recruit.
Then if it's a DI athlete or retired professional y'all complain they only got hired because of name recognition and connections
Oh and don't forget if it's a woman then y'all complain she was only hired for a diversity initiative
Especially sad if the men get a comparatively superior hire.
...or if they get an equally unqualified hire...
If Texas men & women to be national title contending teams, they are going to need to put at least a little effort into the distance side....
If I were an athlete on the Texas team I would be pissed the best my head coach could do is someone with no legitimate collegiate coaching experience. Respect to her athletic accomplishments, but only HS coaching experience? Seriously? This is Texas??

How many distance points did USC score when they won the outdoor title or UGA when they won indoors?
Georgia had a 4th place finisher in the 5k indoors? You’re telling me those weren’t big points?
Think about how established of a powerhouse Arkansas has always been. Much of that stability comes from distance side.
Not saying it’s the end all be all, just saying neglecting it certainly isn’t beneficial.

You're trying to engage a bunch of trolls. It's just a waste of time.
These same idiots were making fun of the Zeb Sion hire. Ya know the 2018 Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.
It doesn't matter who Texas hires. There's a group of trolls on this forum that's going to go all in on the stupid.
The crazy thing to me is that the whole Texas thing seems weird. It’s Texas - the biggest sleeping giant in NCAA in almost all sports...for some reason they just can’t seem to put things together except for a few sports (Baseball, Swimming and Diving, etc)...
Personally, I believe the culture, of “we are better than you, we have more stuff than you, blah, blah” has finally caught up to them. Hiring across the board has been average at best, and I think Most head coaches who do get hired don’t realize what kind of political nightmare grinder they are getting into, and then can’t get anything done...
Just my two cents...
Flo is like Shaka...hot name, decent results, great coach, but not from Texas and may struggle to really adapt to the culture to be successful - time will tell...

She lost me when she defended Butch Reynolds after he got busted for drugs. BTW: when asked if the WR in the 400 hurt, Reynolds reply: "yes, it hurted".
A little shocking and I do wish her the best at Texas. A decent Coach, but just in her Section (Central Coast) she was not even the best high school distant coach out there!
What a lot of people fail to realize is the potential UT has to be a powerhouse in the state of Texas. Texas Tech is on the rise but everyone doesn’t want to go to the middle of nowhere. TX A&M is really not impressive in my opinion, they get a lot of top recruits by default and just because they’re in the SEC. Baylor is nice but is more of a 200/400 school and is more expensive. A 70% scholarship there is a full at most other universities.
If we look at UT they are the historic host location for one of the top three most competitive HS State meets in the country (Cali and Florida having the other two). They are in the center of Texas which makes it more marketable for athletes from all parts of the state Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso and other smaller cities (Austin is the state capital). UT is the second biggest school in the state, and the TX Relays alone attracts some of the best athletes from across the nation. No other school (Tech, Houston, UTSA, UTEP, Baylor, TX A&M, etc....) host a meet even close to TX Relays, the Longhorn is the brand logo of Texas. It’s almost equivalent to the Cowboys Star.
So I say all that to say with the right direction there’s absolute no reason why UT should not be consistently Top 3 at NC’s. The only thing Tech and A&M has over them is an indoor facility. If the new assistant coaching staff is not lazy and if UT gets past the issues from the previous coaches they will be unstoppable.
I’m not a UT supporter but I don’t see where all the hate comes from. Edrick got a great opportunity is what it is.

I wonder how quickly the field event coaches will be snatched up if that’s the case?
Just heard that Garnham was let go at Notre Dame.
Jim Garnham has been a great coach for Notre Dame. Really knows his stuff. Sparks getting rid of him just shows that he won't be able to handle the job. A shame.
No doubt this is a world class runner with a good history of coaching... but can TEXAS REALLY only find a HS coach?!?!? This is crazy!!!!!
I wouldn’t hire a plumber to rescue the boys in Thailand!!!! If you have access to the BEST ($, school, academic prestige) you HIRE the best.
Unless you don’t give AF about distance points, then we’ll done ??
