Seems that in a lot of the workout wednesday videos, the coach says, "this is our first workout of the season. Could be after a big meet half way through the racing calendar. What's the deal?
Could have something to do with their training cycles. It's possible that all of their work so far had been tempos and less strenuous fartleks on their own (meaning out on a run rather than in a coach-controlled environment). This would just mean they probably have a longer or later base phase if its over halfway through the season. But chances are, the athletes are transitioning into proper race training with specific endurance and possibly with s and that's why the coach is calling it the first (real) workout of the season.
