Idk I feel like maybe letsrun's average age is increasing over time? I'm 25 and I don't care at all about NCAA XC. They look like they're little kids. Pro track is where it's at.
This is likely true. LRC has always had a lot of traffic from college runners. After 15 years that's a lot of people that have graduated, but some continue to come to letsrun. Maybe now we are at a point where the 25-35 group overshadows the 18-22.
I agree with both points, and the 25+ group doesn't get reminded by the 18-23 crowd of who the major players are.
LRC has lost college traffic to instagram, FB, flotrack, etc. and the message board can't compete with their successes. Most message boards in general have been lost to FB.
Since most colleges only race their top guys 2-3 times per year, it's hard to be a fan of the sport. We dont care about any particular team or individual because the NCAA + coaches haven't made it relevant to us.
Solutions to fix:
-Go back to duals, or a multi-dual format (1st or 2nd week of September), which will have an impact on conference meets 6 weeks later.
-Have true qualifications within the region, so that conference racing actually matters
-Each member of the team at the NCAA Champs must race minimum 3-4 races
-NCAA Champs will truly be a championship of the season: The winning team will be the best team who raced throughout the whole season, and rewards those who can RACE and compete over 3 months, just like every other sport in the NCAA.
