So I was full swing in my marathon training and then wha-lah, a new pair of poorly fitted shoes caused intense pressure on my slight bunion, and resulted in intense rubbing of my sesamoid bones with my tendon near/at the ball of the foot near my big toe. Went to the podiatrist and he took some x-rays, and saw my sesamoid bones were severely misaligned with where they were supposed to be. He gave me a cortisone shot, a anti-inflam cream, wrapped a dancer's pad to offset pressure in that area, and recommended icing and other methods to reduce the inflammation in there. He said I could start running soon again, but to avoid intense downhills. I was a little skeptical about that, so I'll continue to bike and lift in the mean time, until I feel that I'm ready to run again.
Anyone deal with sesamoiditis, and have any helpful advice and/or coping tips?
