Any word yet? I heard they were considering 2 high school coaches b/c the coaching staff didn't want a good coach with a good reputation b/c they're not planning to spend any $ on the distance side. Damn shame if it's true.

i heard two names yesterday. a high school coach and an asst. college coach.
i believe a decision is imminent.
Who's the HS coach?
Who cares who it is, if the coach is from in state of South Carolina does it really matter? There are not any dominating highs chool coaches in the area. Name, one team who has been in the Harrier magazine rankings inthe past five years with two years in a row for performance top10, boys or girls? The mead coach is at Oregon. So who is qualified??
Larry Clark has the job.
I didn't see anything on the Clemson web site, but I heard that Saturday from the aunt of a recruit.
He's a former Clemson runner (grad in '91) and has coached at TL Hanna High and now at Easley High.
Really? They hired a male for s women's team not a co ed program. That's one for the record book.
head track coach is a woman.
Wow,
Larry will be great for the job. He knows SC and he is an exstate champ in HS and at Clemson he was part of the USA junior team. XC I think. He was the excoach at Northwestern and won there. I hope that this is true because he will be great.
Wow,
Tl Hanna is really known for their distance program. That is bad for Clemson distance but great for the Atlantic Coast Conference. Let me tell you that Clemson is the school to attend in South Carolina. All you have to do is show up on their front door and you will get recruits.
Larry was an asst. coach at TL Hanna in the 90's. His success as a head coach came at Northwestern. Larry is a class act and is a great runner and coach. I know he will do great at Clemson.
I thought Hudgins was the head coach at Northwestern? Who were the final 3 candidates or final 5? Clemson needed a proven coach not a high school coach.
"Clemson needed a proven coach not a high school coach."
You are right. However, the head coach and the other asst. coach didn't want a "proven" coach b/c they're not planning on spending $ on the distance side.
Damn shame in my opinion.
Clark replaced their legend and Hudgins replaced Clark when he moved to Easley to be close to home.
So we get a coach who has not coached in a long time. Hell, let's bring back radio (from the movie radio, same high school TL Hanna, I hate explaining my jokes but thought it was needed.)
At least he is Alum, I guess.
He has been coaching. He was head boys(?) track coach at Easley this spring.

I don't think it serves any purpose to say who the final 3 were. And others have addressed your desire for a proven coach (which Larry certainly is).
However, they weren't paying sufficiently for your idea of a "proven coach."
"Oh no,we suck again". Oh there is value in naming the top 3, and I hear they pay good enough.
Man, you are negative. What is your problem?
And what is your idea of good pay? Because I'd advise you to think much less.
Here is the release naming Larry Clark as the new women's distance coach at Clemson.
Without getting specific, much of what you have read in this thread is inaccurate and posted by people who have no idea of the process or the innerworking of this program. Larry was hired to do a good job with the distance program here, he will have all the scholarship money he needs to pursue ACC and National level competitors, and he has the full support of the head coach and me (the other assistant). Distance is an area that our program wants to be good at.... that is the reason for hiring a distance coach.
Larry got hired because he demonstrated the knowledge, skills and passion for the challenging job of competing in the ACC and rebuilding our distance area. He was chosen over some other highly regarded distance coaches in the area and Nationally.

Unfortunately the negative comments about Larry Clark seem to be coming from "people" that have never coached with or even know the caliber of person Coach Clark displays. Clemson hired the best candidate for the job hands down because he knows what it takes to develop a QUALITY program. In about three to four years the naysayers on this message board will be singing a different tune. I know I worked with him for several years and you will not find a better coach to fill the needs at Clemson for the Womens distance program.
