So at the US 10 miler this weekend, there was a $10,000 bonus to the winner of the battle of the sexes. I read several places that the women were given a 6:18 head start (and I know that's the head start that Molly Huddle was given in 2015).
However, that makes no sense as Shadrack Kiphcirchir won the $10,000 bonus and yet his time was only 6:10 faster than Sara Hall's. - 47:33 to 53:43. If Hall was given a 6:18 head start, she would have won by 8 seconds.
So what was the head start this year?
Or was the timing off?
Or did they make a mistake?
Screwup at 2017 US 10 Mile champs? How much of a head start were the women supposed to get? And how much did they get?

You're 100% right - they started the men's race 6:10 after the women - you can look at the clock when both the men's and women's clocks are up and you can also watch the time of the video when the women start and then the men.

Yes rojo you are completely right. Might be worth bringing up with them.

Of course it would be too late to protest once results have been posted for 30:00

6:18

I know it wasn't 6:18 (either that or the times don't work) but why do we think it was supposed to be 6:18 this year (other than press reports). -

Is there some reason you're asking random strangers on the the internet rather than the race organizers? -
Sounds like a sexist race...time to protest!

Yes. Didn't have race ogranizers info. I've now been CCd on an email to them.
I just figured it would be faster. Did it for the same reason that people google "instruction manual" instead of calling a company and asking it to be mailed to them.
I've been told the 6:18 number is one that was mentioned on the USATF broadcast. It's also what appeared in updates by Scott Bush and is what was used in 2015 and what was mentioned in a post0-race recap by the Star Tribune.
But it could be that the media remports are just both wrong as an info sheet for the race said the headstart would be "based on recent past performances of the athletes in the field." So if that's true, it seems unlikely that it would be 6:18 yet again. -
The time changes every year. It was 5:43 last year.

Probably because there is a damn good chance race organizer and people associated with him/her read this Board. -

Disregardless of any info that anyone did or did not have...
Whatever head start the women got was exactly correct considering the finish. -

"The women are given a six plus minute head start"
Maybe the race organizers were not into precision. -
The women are givena six plus minute head start and the men chase them in an effort to be the first to the finish and the overall champion of this "handicap" race. (It's called a handicap as one gender(the women) has an advantage from the start that the men must overcome to collect the "winner take all" prize.
from linked article
Race operators need to be contacted on the question what the planned offset would be. With out the official version we are just flapping our gums. -
The timing was not off. You can see on the actual results that the gun starts for the two races were 6:10 apart...

We have contacted them. Something strange must have happened as they didn't answer today other than saying we'll get an answer tomorrow. -
I sent the article to Sara thru FB and she said she didn't know there was a possible error and thanked me for sharing the link.

Apparently the chances weren't as good as your ego thought.
