The organisers decided they will go out at 60:45 pace if it doesn't rain and at 61:00 if it does. Just wow.

Expect great disappointment.
With three great stars, I wonder what the process of determining pace is.
That is beyond suicidal. There will be some casualties.
Thought this was a troll but nope

It will be hard to get under 2 hours with such a slow first half.
If they follow the plan, they'd be lucky to get under 2:04.
It would be funny if they all blew up and some nobody wins in 2:05

Also, no way will they negative spilt that s h i t. Just go out at 61:30 and negative split. That is 2:03 pace for the first half of the race, and that would be playing it smart!
Ahh, this gives Ryan Vail even more of a chance! Vail ftw
And make sure you idiots tune in so the race organizers can make even more money in the future. The more eyes they have on this race, the more they can charge for advertising fyi. That being said, I m hoping Bekele win and breaks the WR.

I agree. This is stupid. 60:45 is 2:01:30 pace. Do they not think the rabbits coming in and out, running on a course with no turns was worth more than 1:05? I certainly do.
Too fast.
I hope Bekele doesn't go with it and wins from behind. I wonder if down the roa Bekele will consider getting a new agent. You can't have an agent representing you and your nemesis in the same competition.
You know that Bekele owes almost his whole career to Jos Hermans, right?
Ummm no
The pace was determined by Kipchoge. Bekele/kipsang wanted slower.

Mistake. WR may still be broken, but this is not optimal pacing. I figure 2:02 is the most attainable optimistic estimate; why not target 61:10 half and try to negative split.
This puts Bekele in a difficult spot. If doesn't go with the pacers, he probably can't win since he won't benefit from drafting and he'll be all alone for the first half. If he goes with the trailing pack, he'll probably lose too much ground since it's unlikely Kipchoge will fall apart (Kipchoge will positive split, though).
This is not a sound pacing strategy.

So why can’t they get slower pacers for them?

I'll pace the first quarter mile for them.
Holy crap, I'm not the only one hoping for a Bekele victory!
Totally agree on the sub-2 assessment -- people underestimate all the advantages at play in that stunt.
Bekele said he won't go out that fast, and I hope he sticks to his plan. So did Kipsang. I'd be happy if either one came from behind and beat Kipchoge.
Come on, Kenenisa!
