More money? New challenge? Cooler weather?
Think he saw the writing on the wall in terms of the performances his men have turned in for the past 5 years. The past 3 years have been dismal in terms of conference point scoring on the track and placing in XC. That being said, I think Oregon State is a place where he can succeed given a women's only program.

He's only going to be coaching the women?

There's only a women's program
So who takes over at Az St?
I'm assuming Asst. Coach Rasmussen will move to head coaching spot most likely and open a spot for an assistant. Quintana prob left most likely not because of slump in mens program but because of the opportunity to head his own program. weather has nothing to do with it. he's a die hard sun devil.
Good for Louie.
Don't know what kind of money he had to work with when he left; however, from a reliable source I was told a couple of years ago he only had 1.5 scholarships for the men.
One of the more underrated coaches in the country.
Do you know how hard it is to recruit a kid to be a distance runner in a concrete covered desert? (Without going foreign - U of A cough cough*)
Had multiple national champions & All-Americans. Worked with limited scholarships and still produced - Remember 2/3 of the 2016 women's Olympic marathon team were Sun Devils, not to mention guys like Alcorn and Bethke.
I also believe the move of the throws coach from ASU to OSU last year played a big part, there was probably something else going on in the track dept at ASU.

This is simply not true.
Tempe Town Lake
Karsten GC
Indian Bend Wash
Papago Park and Central SRP canal
..........and this is just FROM CAMPUS/track.
Why is there only a womens program ?
Title IX
Come to think of it what happened to Angel Martinez?
Curious - ballpark, what would a position like this pay? Women only? Really surprising how bad OSU has been in the past few years assuming they have the max scholarships for women. 11th in the P12 in cross country and track I think? They only beat USC in cross and USC only cares about sprints and Utah in track and Utah is not too interested in track. OSU should be much better so congratulations to Coach Quintana and I am sure he will do great!

Nope. They need ~$10 million dollars to set up an endowment for scholarships.
