If i do 6 x 800 at my goal 5k pace, how long should i recover inbetween? And should i do recovery jogging, walking or standing?

Did this and had 4-5 mins recovery (slow slow slow jog) inbetween. Too long? I was told recovery doesnt matter as long as youre hitting goal pace... True y/n?
Recovery pace absolutely matters; it essentially determines what kind of workout a training session becomes.
If you were doing the traditional vo2max session then that 6x800 at 5k pace should have been 1:1 work-rest ratio or even better less. So if for example you were hitting those in 2:30, recovery would by 2:30, ideally 2:00 or even 1:30 if it's 5k pace.
If it was done with :45-1:00 minute rest it'd become a cruise interval session simulating a threshold run
