I think people are confusing Friday's rioting with Saturday's protests. Friday saw small pockets of rioting, a few hundred people were arrested. Their actions are unacceptable and the jail time they face comes from laws and a legal system that existed long before Trump and serves us all. Saying it is somehow a suppression of free speech is nonsense, if you break windows, start fires, and assault police officers, you go to jail. That people who violently broke the law will be punished for doing so doesn't make Trump a dictator or his supporters Nazis.
Saturday's march had 600,000 people in DC and 3+ million nation wide and virtually no incidents like this. In fact there were zero arrests made in DC, and no riots of any kind. People assembled legally and peacefully. The intention of those people was to state that while one party has a monopoly on government power right now, they do not have a mandate from the people to enact sweeping right-wing reform. While the conservative politicians and those who support them likely will not acknowledge that the protests had any effect, it is hoped by the millions of people that marched that voicing their beliefs, opinions, and fears collectively and loudly will cause some moderation of the pending political agenda.
God bless America.
