From the looks of the field, I'd say Sell will win easily next week.

You'd be wrong.
Abdi just ran sub 23 in New York, a tougher course.
Matt Lane has been running really well on the roads.
I give credit to Brian Sell. But at the end of the day he beat some other Hanson members, and ran a little above average 8k on a perfect day, on a perfectly flat and fast course. Again, I'm not undermining his performance. But to say He will beat these two above mentioned runners easily is something only a Hanson member would say.
Hanson's often live in their own little worlds...
That is obviously something that a Hanson member did not say. I just rode home from Chicago in the same vehicle as Brian and he in no way sees himself as the favorite. He has never beaten Abdi and Matt Lane just walked him down in JAX. Those are Brians words not mine.
As far as living in a dream world that is not our athletes but maybe Keith and I. I remember back at the marathon trials when we told the athletes that we thought 3 guys were capable of finishing in the top 10 and our athletes along with all of the so called experts thought we were nuts. I guess we were as Brian faded to a disappointing 13th place leaving us with only 2 in the top 10.
Kevin Hanson
if there is prize money in the race, some kenyans will be there to earn that and the americans will be running just for the fun of it. which is what most people do.
dougie, dougie, dougie...dude, it's the 10 Mile US Championships for men. Foreign runners not eligible to win prize money.
I don't in any way want to criticize Brian's race in Chicago. He's an exceptional athlete. But in response to the initial poster, Brian will not win the race easily. He may win, no doubt. But certainly not easily. 23:17 8k does not suggest a superior level of fitness that will not challenge a handful of the runners listed next weekend. And I would like to say it is true that some Hanson members live in a dream world, but often times that dream turns out to be reality.

Should be exciting to see who wins.
Kevin, You really shouldn't have to defend an idiotic comment by ignorant people on the thread. Brian is a definite contender for the time, and is worthy to be mentioned as a favorite.. Best of luck to everyone running in the 'ville!
How can an opinion be considered "idiotic" or "ignorant"? Take yourself and this board a little less seriously.
interesting to note..... wrote:

the "idiotic comment" that he was defending, as you put it, was one that said Brian would win "easily." i think every reasonable person who clicked on this thread can acknowledge two things - 1) brian sell is capable of winning the race, and 2) if he does so, it is unlikely that he will do so "easily" given the others in the field. or at the very least, predicting an easy win at this point is a little overzealous.
i thought it was appropriate and nice to see kevin hanson step in and clarify that the person posting as "Hanson" or "Hansons" or whatever who started this thread was not speaking on behalf of kevin hanson or his team.
I defend what Kevin did, what I meant for people to take from it is something stupid like that should be taken with a grain of salt. everyone knows the Hansons program is excellent, and I think its wasting Kevins time in answering something so dumb, when he has alot more knowledge to share... make sense i hope?
Get a life
"if there is prize money in the race, some kenyans will be there to earn that and the americans will be running just for the fun of it. which is what most people do."
There is an "open" race with prize money: $400, $200, $100 I think. Some Kenyan won that last year.
